This Section Is For Advanced Hobbyists Discussing new original cutting edge Experimental and Trial Treatments and Surgical Techniques, here we take koi health and pond keeping to the next level
Not forgetting Duncan & Gazza for all the help and support.[/quote]
Not a truer word hs been spoken. We would all be worst off without having Gazza and Duncan there, but they can give as much help and advice as we ask for but some people ask but never act on the advice given. I dont think there is anything more annoying than when people ask for advice and dont act on it. In your case you have followed every step adviced and look at the result's they speak for themselves.
Latest update
One or two koi have occationally started flicking. I decided to try and treat the small ogon again as for some reason has not healed as well as the sanke( This wasThe reason I turned off the Bubblbead). Anyway I then did a scrape and once again found 1 skin fluke and 1 body fluke. Looks like the CT treatments have not quite done the job. perhaps now that the sanke is almost healed perhaps I should change direction with the CT treatments and go for what is best for flikes? I have failed in the past to get hold of superverm. So whats the next best treatment for flukes Telmin or flubernol and where can I get it.or should I try another round of high dose of CT. This is getting a bit scary now.Best REgards Dave
Thanks for the Links. temlin seems to be the cheaper option and after reading about Duncans tests on temlin and I am now leaning towards that. perhaps someone can confirm the dosage for temlin which holds 2g of mebendazole per 20g of Temlin. I make it 40.5 gms of Temlin for a 5400 gallon pond which gives 4.05g (4050mg mebendazole or 0.75mg per100 gals)
Best Regards Dave
I have never treated using Temalin but have great faith in Flubonel and i think it will be the case of what you can get hold of to be honest mate.
Hi Gazza Thanks once again for your input. I have decided to go for Temlin. Its purely down to costs. Which are now beginning to run a bit on the high side. Hopefully this type of treatment won,t set back all the healing which has taken place on the sanke. Best Regards Dave

The koi seem to be looking much better and less flicking going on since bypassing the bubblbead. The wound on the ogon appears to be healing( I can see this wound on the side) I have scraped another couple of koi ( the ones which I new had flukes prior to the CT treatments)and found nothing not 1 fluke. So after having a nudge in the right direction from the chief. I will carry out another dose of CT. This will hopefully achieve a few things. One to further seal any wounds and clean the water up the water after turning off the Bubblebead. Also kill off any remaining flukes. If not I can always use the Temlin at a later date ( I haven,t actually got it yet anyway)
The sanke is doing really well and is now one of the first up to eat. The faint stress lines look to be less so looking good I think.
best Regards Dave
Well it's all sounding possitive I think when we had problems it appears that another sittuation is rearing its ugly head we ask ourselve's what now, but to be honest we forget our Koi have been through an ordeal, so this in turn raises their stress levels. I think when a pond has had treatments it can a little while for things to settle down, including the Koi. I also think we then see problems when maybe they are not such an issue. You have done a brilliant job with the Sanke, it is a miracle she is still here with wound she had, if nothing else a wound that deep I would of thought Dropsy would of developed. But with you care she has made a great recovery. It never ceases to amase me just how strong these Koi can

Kimr Thanks for the input. I agree it will take a while for things to settle down, hopefully before the onset of winter. One of my main aims has been water quality, that is why after cleaning the bead Filter and finding a lot of debre in the bottom. I decided not to use it anymore.I am changing lots of water to ensure organics is kept to a minimum.Hopefully my Orp levels will return to normal, together with reduced TDS.All this I am sure will help the sanke to recover. All looking very much improved at the moment.
best regards Dave
Gazza Thanks for the Input. , 2 things have happened fairly quickly.1 nitrates have started falling and 2. Orp levels have increased.( 300 to 330mv) I am not sure if this is anything to do with turning off the Bubblbead or with water changes and the reduced TDS (375),but what has surprised me most of all is I have still managed to keep the water clear and that is with the UVs switched of during CT treatments. I am quite happy the way things are apart from the occational flicking.
Whats a UV I only put one back on my system last year as it can go a bit green after BW treatments but other than that i don't use one and its not even wired in as i have it on a plug and have to run a lead out in the shed.......and i am a sparky so glad its not on to be honest
Good news things are getting back on track and i am sure things will continue to improve and well done for hanging on in there mate as it can be bloody tough sometimes and its easy to switch off and miss things

Your RO and other set up (showers?) must be really doing an excelent job. Hopefully with a bit tweeking here and there I can imulate your conditions and health of the koi.Best Regards dave
