Hi Mark,

Yes this was always going to be an awkward one to treat as due to it being flexible the treatments have to really hang on in there all you can do is give it a good clean out and then carry out each treatment and give as much time to dry as you can.

Good luck mate hope it all turns out OK.

Well, as suspected, this is a problem, and too big a job for me.

Injected again, second of three, then reviewed the damage - to me it looked like the hole is filling in naturally - Dunc can let me know if I am deluding myself or not, however, the redness suggests a raging infection, so relying on the baytril now.

Second attempt to clean out with HP seemed ok, got the merc 2% on, and first layer of orahesive on into the hole, blown clear, drizzle of lock & seal+, then about to add next layer of lock&seal after another orahesive, then BAM! Tail thrashed, bottle of L&Seal now sealed the slate tiles on the patio, and only able to rescue a small amount to finish.

Well, no surprises, on placing back into the pond found her now bleeding from the tail joint on the other side, no doubt due to the thrashing, and five mins later, all the sealer floating off in layers.

Not happy with the extreme infection, further damage, or likelihood enough has been done enough.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Sounds like you've been in the thick of it mate and always a bummer when they come round this is one of the reasons i tend to leave them a bit longer if i know i am going to go at it a bit.

Sounds like she came round a bit early and undid all your good work  could you not of put her back in the anesthetic again,if this was to happen i would put back in the anesthetic and then start again with the tropicals and sealing as i like to get them to dry of well before going back in the pond (sorry not advice for the wound but just in case for next time).

Lets hope the AB's help with this and that the next injection time you get a chance to give here a good clean out and really pack some sealers on the wound.

Out of interest where are you injecting :?:

Gazza,

I am injecting baytril 10% locally to the wound IM so trying to hit the wound directly. Doing EOD so last one Friday. Will get her under deeper, as she had gone very quickly both times, just over 3mins. I did the 10secs held, and was well out, but will go a bit longer Friday.

That reminds me, need some Lock & Seal on order to replace the batch that got splattered everywhere.

I have been looking at the photo again and hope I am seeing the wound closing correctly.... :?

Hi Mark,

Depending what you are using if i was doing a small wound i would use the 10-15 second rule but if i wanted to have a good clean up and scale pulling session i would leave a fair bit longer and make sure the fish is well under so leave them in there a fair bit longer as its surprising how long you can leave them and they come round fine.

Thanks Gazza, I shall do as you say, as usual, concerned not to take em too far....

Still learning! :D

Anyway, got me results from Dunc, passed his health course with distinction, so on paper I can do this sort of thing

Hi Mark from my experience (and I am sure I will be corrected by people who have much more knowledge than me) I would not be expecting to see much visible healing at this stage, that looks like a pretty deep infection and will take weeks to begin to really heal so it is a long slog rather than a sprint, so keep positive but dont expect miracles over night.

Thanks Stuart,

I think you are right, and with the subtle signs seen so far, I will try and remain positive.

Dunc,

You have me puzzled... yet intrigued... :o

Mark

PS Last jab tonight, photo attached, and as its 'filling in' left alone for now (just a short splash of Merch2%), particularly now I need to wait for a Dunc's challenge......

Duncan,

Received your 'package' today, along with the replacement loack&seal  but gotta say, you have me foxed!

The thick orange/ochre viscous nature of it, and lack of strong smell would be sending me in the direction of something natural, and sticky, so I would guess somewhere along the beeswax thread, but other than that, not a clue!

Come on, spill, and more importantly let me know if its to be used instead of lock & seal, or in conjunction with anything else?

How long out to dry, if thats what you would intend it to do?

Lots of questions! :D

Mark

PS, Thanks, and how much do I owe you!

Hi there, this is a v nasty infection and in a difficult place! Are the rays of the tail broken completely where the tail meets the body??
From previous experience If the damaged rays are rubbing while the fish swims it will be next toimpossible to close this up!
Can you get a close up of rays when have the wound cleaned out for next jag?

Thanks mark
