Re: side drains ?
we have a side drain as the pond was built before joining a koi club, it works however looking back we would have just used a bottom drain. Bottom drains are by far the most efficent method.

Re: DIY RO unit
So I have just taken a 50ml sample of pond water to test for the General Hardness using the Kusuri test kit that I have got. Added the first tablet which turned the water to a plum red then added another which turned it to a blue colour, so it only took two tablets altogether. Now for the calcuation...

Re: DIY RO unit
Hi Dave, my next project is to include heating and then an topup/constant water feed & overflow system to try and get the TDS as low as possible and to reduce any excess GH that may be present. I have a kusuri GH/KH tablet test kit however I`m not sure how reliable they are. Well I`m signing off...

Re: Pond Covers
Thanks for the comments guys.
I think I`ll just go for 6 - 8" then. That should do the job. Well I better be off to b&q and start the base frame.
I think I`ll be working in the garage though as its freezing outside!

Re: Cheap inline heater
thats a very initive idea, I`m sure you already know but just be careful what elements and metals are inside some may cause problems for your fish. Great idea though!

Pond Covers
I created some polycarb pond covers in November for our pond and they seem to do the job keeping the frost off the pond and preventing big temp variations. I`m now going to create a base frame so that I can a) slope the covers to allow water and condensation to run off b) to lift the covers further ...

Re: filtration
well you maybe better off looking at using the money it would take to buy a new filter into improving your water chemistry particulary if you have problems with kh. Is it your supply water that has low KH or your pond water? Regarding your k1 many people including myself have soaked their media in p...

Re: filtration
sorry forgot to add that an easy pod in my opinion is only really useful for a QT or in the skimmer line of your pond, I certainly wouldn't use it as the main filtration for a 2300 gal pond even if you use two.

Re: filtration
we have a 2300 gal pond excluding the filtration system. We have a nexus 300 on ours and its certainly kept things in shape. If you are going down the nexus route then I would certainly go for the 300 as this way you will certainly be providing plenty of scope for filtration. Depending on your setup...

Re: What do you think of this?
I`d first like to know what has been printed in Waddy's book before making any assumptions. In the meantime as I dont know the full picture I will reserve my thoughts. I certainly agree with Waddy's points around the 3/4" pipe from the bio chamber of certain filter systems. I own a nexus which ...
