I created some polycarb pond covers in November for our pond and they seem to do the job keeping the frost off the pond and preventing big temp variations.
I`m now going to create a base frame so that I can a) slope the covers to allow water and condensation to run off b) to lift the covers further up off the pond surface as there is only about 4" between water suface and covers.
My question is does anybody know what the required slope is for condensation to run off. I believe it was mentioned at one of our club meetings as being 17 degrees however want to confirm this before building the base frame.
I think BrianS is the man for this, I`m sure he commented on this at one of our last club meetings.

Re: Pond Covers
If I've done this correctly there shold be a picture of my covers somewhere. If I've got it wrong the picture is in cyberspace

Re: Pond Covers
I don't think there is a specific angle of orientation - how effective the cover is depends on the angle, the amount of water / condensation and the properties of the cover (and how clean it is, etc).
To explain my point, the ideal angle for maximum run off is obviously 90 degrees (ie vertical) but that is not great for a cover. Conversely, a flat / horizontal cover will still work - you throw a bucket of water on and it will run off - just not as well or as quickly.
Sewer pipes and flat rooves are recommended at a minimum fall of 1 in 40 (2.5 degrees) but obviously. the steeper they get the faster the run off. I think most people go for 6-8 inches from front to back which seems to be about right.

Re: Pond Covers
Thanks for the comments guys.
I think I`ll just go for 6 - 8" then. That should do the job. Well I better be off to b&q and start the base frame.
I think I`ll be working in the garage though as its freezing outside!
