Sieve`s-what do you think of them

I just ask as cleaned the static K1 saturday and had to do again tonight in the dark(mon)

Probably went a bit over on the food today as greedy looked at me everytime I walked past the pond and washed a bit of rubbish out the settlement chamber today but last year when I modded the CL2 to k1 it was lasting a week after the initial week where it caught everything!

It would have to be pump fed and gravity fed into first chamber of CL2 so quite high up?

It would have to be the cheapest sort and what is scary is the price of replacement sieve elements!!!!!! Stupid prices! Absolutely ridiculous!

Thats what annoys me with paying hobby prices for stuff, getting ripped off.....

Maybe better to put an expensive fine leg of a stocking/tights on the 4" to catch most of it and let the k1 catch the rest.......

Andy,

So your CL2 is pump fed yes?

And what you're asking is could you put a sieve in front of it?

If so, perhaps one of the simple Seive's that are usually pump fed may do the job, forget what they are called. If you can pick one up reasonably cheap it's worth a try. Or even lend one of of a friend who has one kicking about doing nothing. If it works pay for it, if it doesnt return it.

Thanks Bob, yes CL2 is pump fed so sieve would have to be higher and gravity fed into it, could only see that it would work better. then the static on chamber one could also be fluidised the same as chamber 2. As far as I have read then sieves do a good job a the mechanical side of things so this would sort it.
Dont really want to "need" to clean every day......

That looks like it's working real well Andy, well done. Removing lots of rubbish from the water as well.

So will you be changing the rest of the filter about now, or waiting a while to see how it settles down

Well since adding it the 1st chamber is running higher but didnt need to clean today which is a good start.
I will see how long it takes for me to have to clean static k1 then have a think.

The sieve is 250 microns and so I was wondering how fine the static catches when it is a bit dirty???

It may take out more than the sieve or just catch what escapes the sieve.

I will wait and see.....

Have added more japmat I collected at cuttlebrook so I will aerate that at some point when it`s not raining and I can do some air pump swapping and wiring.

The top return is the overflow, Tony. The bottom the normal return. You need one on a pump fed otherwise if it blocks..... whoops....

The crap actually gets moved down the sieve as thre water splashes through the top part pushing the crap further down.
I thought some might go down the over flow but it just went past it.

Today I took the sieve bit out and it was a third full of half inch thick green!!! I just tapped it on the compost heap and was gone. I quick swirl in a bucket and bunged it back in.

static k1 was briming though so cleaned that today, will see how long it lasts now its been on a few days.

after turning pump back on there was a green line in the sieve in minutes!!! Probably because I put a ceramic air dis over my bottom drain and its sweping the pond floor like a hoover!!!

I keep lifting the lid to see how much crap is in it!
Probably fit a webcam in the lid
