The Answer

Can anyone advise if an Evolution Aqua 'The Answer' is the answer to my fines removal problem? Do they sell them anymore as i cant find them on their website? if they don't, does anyone know why not? Do they actually work? and where would you normally fit one? The reason I ask is that they are availabe relatively cheaply now! Thanks.

Hi Dave,

The Answer is old hate now and many used to say not very good as it cost to much to run due to the pump inside.It was replaced by the easy in the Nexus and they don't make them anymore.Whats your pond set up perhaps its something on that and how bad are the fines

Anyway that bit over, er not too bad actually! Just was thinking of tinkering and have not got solids removal apart from those in the pod. Looks the like particles are munched off bits of algae from the pond sides as the fish browse. I have recently removed my Oase black box that I installed initially and am only running with the pod now. I flush it through 2 or 3 times every other day religously.

The water is generally OK really as I only have a small pond (7000 liters) and I run a 40l/p/m air pump continuously which, although I dont have a botton drain, always keeps the bottom clean of crud. My thoughts for doing it was that now I have taken out my first pump and the Biosys thingy I wanted to give the pod the best biological position and didnt want it constantly full for solids. I was thinking of one of the micro sieves but they are extortionate! What do you think?

Unfortunately i am not that Gazza as otherwise i would have a bigger pond

You need a mechanical side to help you with the fines which the pod should be able to do with the static K1 has it been running long

Hi, if you are cleanining out evry other day then you are cleaning way too much

the pod is mostly mechanical , so it needs rubbish to start blocking it, as it starts to block the path through gets smaller, so it catches smaller and smaller stuff. i am cleaning mine once every two weeks at the moment

another thing to watch out for, (and i did this myself and got lots of fines), is make sure you dont overfill the pond

if you have water going over the overflow, ie water passing from the outer vortex across the 3 channels direct to the outlet, this will give a lot of fines. my pond suddenly went cloudy and when i reduced the water level below the overflow channels the pond cleared in a few days

remember the K1 will start to rise, this tells you it is becoming blocked and needs cleaning soon .

Steve, thanks for the info, I guess your comment is reference if the pod was gravity fed? Mine is pump fed so shouldnt be a problem?

So I take it the advice is;

clean less often.

dont add anymore equipment as the pod should do the job.
