Post by happy days !! »

hi all,

i have recently aquired a badu top 6 pond pump i have connected it up today, but it has very little suction, it will not suck water into the pump let alone up 1.2 metres and over my shower, am i doing something wrong or is it broke.... i am using 2inch solvent weld pipe inlet and 11/2 inch outlet....

any thoughts........

Dave,

1/. Have you connected it the right way round? I know it sounds a stupid question but I've seen it happen.Water goes in the front and out the top right?

2/.Where is the pump situated? Above water level or below?

3/. Do you prime the leaf basket with water? Most pumps will overcome this eventually and start pumping.

That pump has a maximum head of 4 metres so should give you plenty of flow at 1.2m.

Hi,

The pump is about 10" above pond level, i have put water in the leaf basket and when i turn it on if i put my hand under the pipe in the water, i can feel slight suction but not much,

Sorry Dave,got distracted.

My old ITT Marlow would get going in about five minutes when it was mounted above water level.Made a hell of a noise at first due to the cavitation and then suddenly got enough suction to get everything flowing.Things got a bit slower when the intake got blocked with that unmentionable long thin green stuff.

So I'd check for a blockage in the intake plumbing,a leakage in the leaf basket section, and then I'd hook it up below water level to see if it still wouldn't pump.

The first thing that should have come to mind but only just got there is the electrical connection.Connected the wrong way around the pump would work assbackwards.
