Pond build update

Before anyone started wondering what we were up to thought id update ya, we finally got a few other things around house and garden to now allow us back on to the pond build.

the last piccy posted on koiquest is the one below :-

But since then Mark has been tinkering around getting a bit here and there done.

We have removed the hedge from behind the pond and gained 5ft of space which is great as its solved where any filteration going, the bottom drains been placed and floor laid and now finally the brick work is going up.

Piccy below is to where we got to on sunday been a little bit more work yesterday but will update with pictures next time .

Looking good Jane. I got to about where you are 18 month ago and has not moved since.

You'll soon have it up and running, just keep plugging away at it.

Looks around 14 x 7 to me, how deep will you be when finished.

couldnt rember the size when i posted it is about 14ft x 7ft and gonna work out just under 6ft deep when finished... and yep the aim is to be finished this summer Been to long without the fish

Are you having a window?
Is the base re-enforced or just a slab of concrete?

Starting to get the urge to demolish and rebuild mine.

the plan is to have a window waiting to see how it pans out, we have one in a frame thats 6foot by 2foot to go in possibly at the end nearest the house. and yes the base has been reinforced and is approx 8 inches thick..

this pond is also going to be run in anusual way ! with no water pumps at all, but will have a water turnover of about 3500 gallons per hour...

More details please!!! I take it you're going to have an airlift system in the filter somewhere/how?

Is the bottom drain not central due to the way the water will return to the pond? I remember your plans now, so I guess it will weir over from one end, toward the drain at the other end?

you guessed it. there is going to be the usual vortex with static K1 eazy thingy followed by two fluidised bays of K1 and on the end is going to be an extra bay set right up against the pond wall with 8 or 10 x 1.5" uplift tubes with 90 degree bends on the top guiding the water over a cut-out in the pond wall (like a waterfall). its probably going to be run by an airtech 80. but this should also run the aeration on the bottom drain.

Bob the pond slopes 10 inches from one end to the other to stop the crud from becoming settled. yes the water should run from one end towards the drain end..... hopefully

Sounds like a great plan. So it's basically a streamflow kind of design but with a twist? Sounds good and can't wait to see it in action.

that is coming along nicely, but i notice that the blocks are laid at a 1/4 block and not 1/2 block, which i think would make it a little stronger, especially as you come above ground level, i am no builder but I'm sure someone will let you know if it makes any difference
