Dear Duncan
I was once again around at my friends house to start a coarse of Fortum on several of his koi. We lifted 4 koi of various sizes and the extent of the damage was horrific. Far worse than I had antisipated and clearly time has been lost since I first seen them. ( I only wish I had brought my camera) Anyway on the plus side He has an 800 gallon quarantine system . After removing numerous scales and topicly treating the KOi were injected with the appropriate amount of Fortum and then put into the quarantine system .
Due to the extent of the wounds and also quite a bit of fluid under the scales ( not sure if this is the first signs of dropsy)we have decided to start adding salt 0.3% and a 3 day treatment of CT on monday of 10g,8g & 6g per 100 gallons respectively. AS we live in a soft water area it will be neccasary to add sodium bicarb and epsom salts to raise the hardness. Which will take until monday to do, When we wili also give the second injection.I have been considering raising the salt to 0.6%. I would appreciate any input and if you can see anything wrong with this approach let me know as my friend koi are very high quality and as you can imagine is very worried Thankyou

i would stick at 0.3% salt till you have done your C/T treatments then ramp up to 0.6%. other than that your logic is sound, provided you have adequately cleaned the wounds.
if you need to C/T again drop the salinity back down
i think it fair to say there will be keloid scaring if they are as bad as you say so be prepared for that

Chhers Duncan for your quick reply. Hopefully I have cleaned the wounds sufficiently. There were some areas where what looked like skin trying to grow over so left them alone as regards cleaning and there where large holes under the scale pockets where I could not see properly so I took particular attention too , so hopefully I did enough. Fingers crossed. Yes I don,t think they will ever be the same again.
