Hi All
Is there anyone who lives near Leigh in Lancashire who could possible help my friend. A few weeks ago she had a massive increase of ammonia which she sorted with lots of water changes. We do not know how this happened but since then the Koi keep dying, ontop of the water problem she has had a Heron problem, but the Koi keep dying she has lost most of the small Koi but the bigger Koi are now dying. There are no marks on the koi at, all the gills are ruby red she says they look perfect. Please if anyone can help or have any suggestions

Kim,
I'd suggest that she needs a visit from someone with some experience who can see the situation first hand. I've made a phone call and I'm waiting to see if that will produce the name of someone nearby who could help.

Hi Mankey Sanke
If there is someone who could help her it would be brilliant but I fear the worst to be honest. Her water readings are doing really well she has Ammonia down to 0.1 and Nitrite is between 0.2 and 0.3 so she has done really well but it just is not making sense why what looks like perfectly healthy Koi are dying. Thank you again

Kim,
The nitrite level should ideally be kept well below 0.2 mg/L but even if it's as high as 0.3mg/L that won't be killing them, I left a message earlier, I still haven't had a reply yet. I'll let you know when I do.
What's the pH and has she done any scrapes?

Hi Mankey
The PH up there is very very low her's is 6.5 done on a digital meter and that is stable as she checks it everyday, no scrape done but the Koi are showing no signs of flicking flashing clamped fins distress not holding themselves head up tail down or vise versa not sitting by returns. The only Koi that has shown any sign's of pinking up is Doitsu Showa but he has been like this since the Ammonia shot off scale. I am fairly confident there are no parasites as she discribes everything to me she doesn't hold anything back lol. As soon as there is a problem she is on the phone to me straight away. Tomorrow she is starting a trickle in and out she has turned the UVC off and she is keeping it covered to keep it nice and dark to help reduce the stress. She has around 150ltrs of air a minute going in. Also she is not heated

Kim, gotta be quick if you or your friend want to ring someone this evening. I've contacted someone nearby. He can't help but if you or your friend can ring fairly soon tonight a nice man called Neil might be able to put her in touch with a local club. I don't know the area so I said I'd get one of you to ring with details.
If you can't ring soon, you can ring after 6 pm tomorrow.
PM with his phone number is on it's way.

I know this is an old thread but did she get sorted ?
I'm in leigh and learning the ropes and would be good to meet up with people in my area if anyone needed help.

Sorry I can't give an update, I didn't hear any more after that.
Kim, any news about the outcome?
