New Pond build-Finally Got Some Fish In!

Hi Gazza,

Getting there slowly-infact very slowly!

Been out today and siliconed round the edge of the window to tidy it up and make sure there were no ridges for muck to collect on.

I thought id cleaned the bottom drain yesterday but i stuck a drain rod up there today and the most smelly black stuff i have ever seen came out! After a very wet few hours it is now squeaky clean and the air diffuser has now been fitted

The glass will just need a quick wipe down and any excess silicone removed and its ready to fill

Still havent got filters finished but wont be filling till saturday so will have all day to get them done-i doubt the filters will get filed til late on Sunday as our water pressure isnt great!

so how many Watts of power are you looking at using to power this pond.....? (i bet its under 400watts)

are you going to make any provisions for adding a pergola later on.?

Hi Jane,

Will be turning the pond over at 32,000lph through main filters using uplifts at 80 watts. There will obviously be other things running:
2 x secoh 40 on uplifts (80 watts)
2 x secoh 40 on fluidised chambers (80 watts)
1 x secoh 50 on bottom drain (50 watts)
1 x 60 watt uv (60 watts)
So 270 watts in all turning pond over more than once an hour and 210litres of air an hour-not to bad! I will be adding a shower later which will need a large pump which will probably just be run in summer months. I will be changing to just two larger air pumps to run everything which will bring watts down quite alot. By using the uplifts i can cancel out the running costs of the large pump needed to run a shower making the whole set up fairly ecconomical.

Not sure on the pergola as yet-would love to add one but my garden is tiny and i think it would really look to much and also would block out all the light in my neighbours garden. Maybe in the future, will have to see.

No water just yet-will fill up on Saturday/Sunday-how long does it take to fill around 6000 gallons? What temp are you at in your pond?

If your filling through your purifier it will take a good few days mate thats for sure

I take it you already have a water meter to make sure how much water goes in

I am currently sitting at 16c.

Bob-bet that still takes a lot of heating on a pond your size even at 8 degrees. Have you noticed any benefits from the roof? Bet its slightly more comfortable when cleaning filters!

Gazza-16 degrees! you certainly know how to treat your fish!

Have just connected up the water meter and started filling her up!

Cheers Herbie Guessing gallonage to be around 6000 gallons with filters but havent really worked it out properly-will go by the water meter. Was planning to rig up the uplifts this afternoon but the hose pipe has frozen in the night and has not filled pond up!
