I was thinking which isnt always a good idea, does any one know if its possible to heat your pond with a woodburner?
The amount of tree's that are felled and just left to rot, the wood also isnt that dear to buy.

Hi
I was thinking which isnt always a good idea, does any one know if its possible to heat your pond with a woodburner?
The amount of tree's that are felled and just left to rot, the wood also isnt that dear to buy.

hi yes i think it could be done.
im only saying yes because at the school where i work we have just had a biomass boiler installed to run our heating instead of oil and gas,so seeing this u could change the boiler to to some sort of woodburner.
Ofcourse the biomass boiler at work is all automatic from feeding the woodchip into boiler to burning ,to controling the boiler and when the water is hot enough the boiler shuts down untill needed again.im not sure what wood burners are out there someone may have an idea.
just thought there may be an issue with building regs so it could be a problem.

just done a quick search.it looks possible to get a woodburner but cost could out the the question prices could be from 4000 to 20,000 pounds.maybe if you have the money you could heat the house as well as pond like others do with gas

Ken at Coldwater Collection has a large woodburner in one of his fishouses and heats the air, he does still have traditional heat exchangers etc powered by oil c/h to stabilise etc, but it is used a lot less due to the burner.
He is in process of buying a commercil one as well that uses a hopper feed, it even burns wet wood, that will then push the heat around the other 5 fish houses via ducting. This type of system is used in a lot of zoos to heat the air and keep temperatures up. A good commercial wood burner is appx 5k! they are supplied in all sizes etc by these chaps :

i use a hunter multifuel burner to heat my 5000 gallon pond
whilst i do burn some wood on it the problem with wood is that to get the output you need to replenish the wood every 1-2 hours depending at the rate the wood burns, plus the wood needs to be well seasoned and dry
Instead i burn solid fuel - normally coke the fire is backed up twice a day
it also keeps my shed nice and warm
