slide valve failure.

hi guys .
can i get seals for slide valves or will i have to buy a new one?
The one on my filter has decided to give up the ghost and wont stop dribbling it is only for flushing to waste but i have to trickle in constantly as it is surprising how much water trickles away! i suppose the good thing is i have a constant flow of fresh water

I Hava a 4inch slide valve in pieces

you can have the seals if you want

I've got a 4inch ball valve to replace the broken slide valve

i brought a new 1 1/2 one and just tock the seals out of new one and into old one
just saves cutting pipes

yes i i would do as last post get a new one there only about £10 delivered on good old fleebay and while you get the new one on order i would get some stainless 5mm cap head bolts and washers and nuts ive done both mine and they undo so much better in the chance of change over seals and the bolts will be about £2 ,chances are that your bolts are going to be knackered so measure the gate valve and be ahead of the game nothing worse on the day and that you do need them and the shops are shut
b&q and the likes dont stock them so i went to a main bolt suplyer if you cant get them email me i will post you 4 for free my first good deed of the year

Will it be worth changing it to a ball valve so this doesn't happen again as you've got to strip it out anyway

Same problem occurs with the 4" slide valves, they are all crap. Ball valves are much better and dont leak even after years of use. And a ball valve with double unions can be taken apart should anything get stuck in there, or you needed access to the pipe.

Can replacement rubbers be purchased for the 4" valves? Yes I have one letting by, not a real issue as just on the inlet to a Vortex, not to waste.

I would love to fit ball valves but there is no room.
Dazz where are you in Ipswich as i live near Hadleigh so not far from you.
Having to constantly trickle in at the mo as had to work so hav'nt had time to tackle it yet. Only good thing is the fish have a regular supply of fresh water.

I have a 4" Valterra slide valve on my main gravity feed. It's only been there for 12 months, and has been leaking for the past 3 or 4 months, and steadily getting worse. I wouldn't use a slide valve on this again and will replace with a ball valve asap.

i sent a pm but in cash it dont get to you all you need to do to stop them is to split the valve turn the seals 180 derees just put the bottom of the seal to the top this will put the bad fold in the seal to the top and will stop the leak i know ive done both mine as they nip wene you push it back
