Anyway i have aquired a Shoreham 250 Gallon Growing On/Quarantine tank,i did intend putting in my Shed but now im thinking of outside and building around tank with Wood, covered in polycarb insulated with Kingspan and anything i can get lay my hands on to put around it.
I know the easy answer is to put in shed, but that involves taking the front of,and the small matter of turfing the paddling pools and all the summer stuff somewhere.
Now the 50 million dollar question, what damage if anything will the elements of weather do to the tank, will frost make it brittle or the sun ect.
Hi Mate, Hope you and your family had a great Christmas?
As you're going to insulate all around it that's going to cover up the tank anyway so there shouldn't any any issues. If the tank gets frosted then your water will be chilled a lot and you'll be losing a load of heat. Are you going to heat the tank?
HI Taggy if it were Me I would have it in the shed. I am sure in or out it would work great, but for Me I love to go down My shed, switch the light on and stand in the warm and dry and feed My Koi on these long cold dark nights. The other plus side of this , You have somewhere to hide from the wife, when she is having a moany moment. YOu may be one of the lucky blokes that You sometimes hear about, who has a wife that dont moan. I doubt it though as I believe these fellows to be mythical creatures just imagined up to give us normal men hope
Justin
Thorny,no im very lucky wife wise She understands so much so she asked the other day have i fallen out with the koi as i havent been possesed of late
Well the good news is we moved the tank accross from the Garage to the back garden,i now need to remove a fair bit as slighly bigger than my other tank gallon wise and length/width/depth.
Ed
Yep going to heat hoping 250 gallons can cope with a couple of aquariam heaters if not will look out for a second hand 1kw electro.
I've got two 300W Jager heaters in mine (300g) and they are doing a great job. They never seem to be on when I go to feed them but I guess we'll see when the leccy bill arrives!!!
I'd go with the other guys and get it in under cover if you can. Or buy a cheap second hand greenhouse mate to put it in!!!
Do you still have that area after your nexus? Where the original filter used to be? Could you put it there and just build around it, make a nice little room for it all? You've got electrics nice and handy then as well.
Thought you'd left the country! No need to tell us how lovley your good Lady is mate and you are well aware how good you have it, say Hi to the girls from us three
If I were you I would move the shed and put it inside, a little more work but well worth th effort.
Well i thought to myself what shall i do today,as only a few more days of my Holiday left.In the end i decided to install my larger growing on tank that i had purchased in my shed.i will let the pictures explain.
Graham
Well The first 3 involved emptying the shed,Not knowing if the weather was going to stay i had to use greenhousde for most of it.Where does it all come from!!!
Who can tell the difference??? & B4 U ask all electrics are tempory hence the orange extension lead,it is now covered to stop the rodents having a nibble.
Yep all in good time Ed,no hurry on this one just wanted to keep away from the elements.Hopefully up and running by the spring, needs to be i need my Greenhouse for my Veg & Bedding Plants that i will be growing.
Good job Graham, as you say you wouldnt even know you'd been there.
Few more weeks for the shower, give you time to complete the rest of the work!
Is the shed roof in good condition, more light the better. Some people are even know installing matal halide lghts above their growing on ponds to improve the light and to retain the colours of the Koi. I know Mike Snaden and Darren do this, Gazza as well now.
No hurry on the shower Bob!! As we said as and when you get time,i have plenty to be going on with.
Roof/Front and sides was re done 2 years back complete so all in good order, though from outside you wouldnt believe it.!! My way of thinking was as i have light through widows to side and end could be plenty,i know on the 2 koi i have grown on colours have been fine so far.If not may well think about lights or even cutting a section of shed roof out and replace with polycarb??
Well just a quick update, with my flood of my kitchen and the weather not a lot has got done. But was nice outside today so put on a valve on the tank, run a small bore pipe from my Purifier in my filter bay to tank so it has a water source to fill up after water changes, and scrubbed tank out and washed out.Just filling up now so to make sure all is ok.
Plentt of room to get around tank to isulate at a later date, obviosly before i transfer any koi accross.
