Lots Of Pond Build Questions

Hello All
firstly i have the window frame for the pond what thickness glass do i need?

Which are the best liners to use butyl or firestone rubber ? can both be box welded?

I have 3 stainless steel EA vortex' the 1st has the easy in it ..the other 2 fluidied K1
How about this for an idea and do you think it would work?

I would like to use the 1st vortex with the easy in plus 1 of the others with the fuidised on the bigger pond which is ok ..

I have an easypod on the 1500gal pond and would like to add one of the EA Vortex' does this sound ok ..the pod is pump fed do you think there would be enough flow through the pod and the vortex together ? 11,000 pump is being used at the moment which also feeds a fluid bed filter.

I have a bubblebead BBF3 and would like to put this on the new pond after the nexus 300 ...gravity fed.
Can i use a 12000 pump between the nexus300 and the BBF3 ? or should i run the BBF3 on it's own?

Can I ask why You are using a liner?? Do it once do it right and fibre- glass the pond. Especially as You are having a window. I know it has been done with the window in the liner, but I can only imagine it being a fingers crossed job when the hose is it there for the first time. I am not sure over time it would stay water tight. Personally when I build ponds for customers I dont use a window frame, I go with the render method. This with out doubt makes a neater looking job and the finish is 100 times better. I cant stand to see the frame. Depending on window size I always go with two sheets of 8mm glass laminated together giving a 17mm thick sheet of glass.

Why? well cash being the major factor at the moment ...and this pond has got to be finished hopefully by the end of sept..
i dont mind leaving the window out if needed ..it was just a question as i havent got round to pricing the glass yet ...and the frame was going to be recessed into dare i say it "the railway sleepers" ..so you wouldnt see the frame anyway.. just the wood and the glass ..(if the glass is too expensive that will be put on hold for the future pond)
This is not your normal pond build part block & part railway sleepers ..(we have done it before and it works well)
We had planned on a 10000 gallon pond ..but my other half got made redundant ..so that rather put the kibosh on it for this year and maybe next..
But in the meantime ..we already had quite a lot of building materials here ..so we decided to use them and give some extra space to some of our bigger koi..
as listed i have almost all the filters and pumps etc .. it's just the CASH !!! so we have to go this route for the time being... no choice.
It has to be a liner thats the cheapest option for us .. and i want it box welded so there are no nasty folds in the corners for bacteria or gremlins to hide.
I wish we could afford to do it all block and render ..would be really nice ...
so there you go ... not all of us are loaded ..but we still want the best we can provide

Why are Brits so down on liner ponds? In Holland they comprise about 90% of all pond builds.

I understand, times seem to be getting harder by the day at the moment, There is nothing wrong with a liner I just think a liner, window, and timber frame work will only lead to one result, heart ache in a year or two.

if it lasts 2 years i will be a happy bunny .. by that time i will have enough cash saved for the big big pond.
then i can move the big boys and girls into the big pond and then re-do this one at a later date ..so there is method in the madness.
And what you have to remember is i am just a mere woman ...trying to do all this mainly on my own !!

So please ...dont dash my hopes and aspirations..

if your short on cash the why ot use the same as cuttlebrooks new indoor ponds. good for a few years and you can sink it in the ground .

not much more in cost than a liner thats been box welded to suit your size hole. and not a single block to cement in and you can put it down on a couple of inches of sand.

spend little now and save for the proper pond

Yepp the pools are a great idea ..i have 3 already ...i wouldnt fancy leaving my koi in there all winter though ...
Well i have the quote for the box welded liner ..it's £400 and the glass for the window is £85.23 to be exact ..where on earth do they get the 23p from.
So i am still going with the liner ...i know many people are putt off by the thought of using a liner .. but all said and done it's having 2 airated bottom drains in it anyway ..so i will be cutting two holes in the bottom of the liner anyway ..so as the glass is not out of the question were going to go with the window as well ..in for a penny in for a pound ...cos if it's gonna leak i have a feeling it wont be the window

Sorry I am new to the hobby, do you mind to explain your render method as I would also prefer to install a window without a frame. Do you have a formula for the glass thickness? My new pond will be 5m x 2.4m x 2.5 m, I need to place a window on the 2.5 side any suggestions?

Thanks TicToc, I would love to here from you or any other expert as I would prefer to do it proper the first time. I want to start digging the new pond next month and would really like to fit a glass window.

Do you think that my babies are aiming in the right direction to become serious Koi? I have a few more of the same back home.
