My pond has suffered badly this summer due to huge amounts of algae. The failure of my pump during my holiday resulted in the loss of some of my fish. My pond is around 2500 gallons. Im now looking at buying a lacron filter either the 20" bead filter or the equivalent in the sand version. Im a little confused. the sand version is much cheaper than the bead version. Has anyone used the sand version to great success? Can beads be used in the sand version ? Can thses types of filters deal with algae? Be great if someone could offer some practical advice. many thanks Mike

What shape is your pond?
How many Ultra Violet Clarifiers do you have?
How long has the pond been running?
Is it a liner or fibreglassed?

I have a general filter box a bioforce 9000 with a 600olph sump pump.
36 watt UV.
I have an air pump which i think is 850 lph ( 6 air stones)
My ponds been running for 5 years.
The pond construction is raised about 18" above the ground with graduating steps to a depth of about 5 feet, however the 5 foot deep area only represents about 25% of the surface area. the reamaining area graduates with about 30% at 18" depth and another 30% at 28" depth approx.it is roughly rectangle. It is constructed with a liner.

im sure others will fill you in more but my own suggestions would be a bigger and better filter ,a bigger pump and a bigger and seperate uv, Depending on your budget and space its something you would have to look into.
With having a sand filter these are normally used to polish the water after filteration not solely as a filter being they get clogged up to easily. Beads can not be used in a sand filter as they float . A proper bead filter may do some of what you require but will tend to get clogged up quickly.
