Skimmer Outlet Size
Do all skimmers have 1.5 inch outlets, ie use 1.5 inch pipe to filters ?
If you know of any that use larger pipe outlet could you let me know which ones and who supplies them please.
Many Thanks

Re: Skimmer Outlet Size
I don't think you get them. I think most people who've done it cut the fitting in the base and glassfibre a larger pipe in there.

Hi
Think the Ceritikin is a 2" outlet.
Have seen a couple with 3" outlets off the shelf, will have a surf.
Mine are cheap olympic wide mouths - that I have drilled out to take 2" pressure, simple job, with 2" they cope with an aquamax16000..

Just had a quick look at my cert and it is 1 1/2 but there would be room to convert to 2" if you wanted to. May I just say that about a year ago I put a certikin on my pond connected to a AquaMax 8000 ECO and went straight from the pump to a compact sieve using 2" pipe, of course I had to tweak the compact sieve inlet first as this was 1 1/2" but I can say the flow rate was better than I expected.

A bigger outlet isn't allways nessasary. The water resistance increases with the inverse of the pipe constriction. This means that the resistance doubles with every incremental increase in constriction length.
To put it in laymans terms... If you jump to a larger diameter pipe directly at the skimmer, the flow restrition will be minimal.
You can see this effect every time you open a tap. If you want to regulate flow from a tap, the seal has to be almost completely closed and after the first 1/4 to 1/2 turn water starts flowing at about 80% of full flow. If you look at a valve for regulating flow you will find it has a pointed spindle where it closes off the water so that the resistance is spread over a larger area and the valve seats much slower.

Re: Skimmer Outlet Size
The ideal size is a 3" outlet to go straight into an EasyPod.Davej wrote:Ouch...

I was hoping not to have to spend the same amount on the skimmer as the actual filter

I have looked on the ****** site and they do sell a converted Skimmer for £54.95. It is however 4" outlet and that could cause a few more issues. I will have to give them a call to see what the standard outlet is before conversion.

Re: Skimmer Outlet Size
you can cut out the bottom of a cheap wide-mouth skimmer and fit a 3ich tank connector.
