Float Switches
I know they exist.......Electrical shut off switches via a float. Can someone explain about these, are they any good, do they do the job. Debbie now has a phobia about going out, then coming home and finding the pond emptied of water........I happened to mention these, and now she's on my case a dozen times a day.
So what are they??, apart from World of Water (£40), where could I get one??.

you can set it to what ever height you want the pump to turn of at
and they are very easy to install
and only £11.73 to boot

Hi you need an outdoor junction boxgingeletiss wrote:Mik
Thanks, seems simple, but I can't for the life see how it works![]()

the box will have a power lead from mains into it the earths are connected together as is the neutrals the live side from mains is connected to one wire in the switch and the brown (live) for pump is connected to the other switch wire it is a simple make and break switch
the switch body itself has a ball in it so when the switch is floating it makes the two contacts join when the water drops the float also drops the ball drops away and the contact is broken thus switching the pumps off

This is why this forum is so great
. I went to machine mart, I bought 2 x float switches, but whilst there, something else caught my eye. I am now the proud owner of a fibre optic extension. This little baby fits on the end of a maglight, and will allow me to see inside a fishes mouth, without trying to fit 12" of torch inside. The end is about 1.5 mm across, and I'm well chuffed with it.
Thanks for the post Mik, I'd never of gone there in a month of Sunday's.
