Biotec 10

Post by Louie »

Briefly.... I've been offered a Biotec 10 filter system. Would this be more suitable for my 8000 litre pond than the HL one? It has a 25W UVC system built in.

This is the one.

By all means use it as an addition to your existing filters but do not depend on this for your main filtration. It depends on how much you are being asked to pay for this unit, as the mony may be better off spent on someting like a Nexus Easy ??

I had a Biotec 10 for a 9,000l pond and found it woefully inadequate and have had to add significant amounts of additional filteration.

Hi Louie, if you are referring to the one on ebay then it is my one so i am probably a tad biased lol

I know most respected koi keepers do not like the black box filters because they feel they are over estimated in there filter capabilities, i orignally had a blagdon filters system and it was a complete nightmare. I brought the biotec and within 2 weeks water was crystal clear and a month after buying readings on the water were as they should be and i never had a problem since. I am selling it as i am going to be building a 5000g koi pond and hence it is going to be no good, i have a tempory filter in place at the moment.

This is another link for you, another thought aswell is i was going to convert the second chamber in the biotect to K1 and that could be a possibility for you at a later date.

Again saying all that i am sure these guys will advise you that the bigger the filter system you can get the better so it really comes down to get the best you can afford and it will save you alot of headaches in the future, hope this helps you a little, Emma.

Biotec Filter

Post by Louie »

Hi Emma....
Yes, it was yours! I thought it better to put "I've been offered" rather than "I might bid on!" LOL.
I would have got it too, but it ended before I got home (I work nights and got held up in traffic.)
Not to worry though, I'm looking at a cloverleaf system now and might even build a new pond from scratch with concrete base, block walls and a Nexus system.
Just need to rob a coulple of banks first though.....
