Abcess or ulcer braking out

Post by DaveB »

Hi all , have a look at my sanke which I managed to heal last year. You can see where she healed next to the fins. Anyway what do you suppose this is. It feels very spongy/soft to the touch . I have tried drawing fluid off with a syringe but nothing came out. Hope its nothing more sinister.

What sort of treatment do you recomened other than antibiotics and topical treatment.

I have had a number of problems of recurring gill flukes. So have treated the pond a few times this season but does not apear to have bothered the koi too much Best Regards Dave

Duncan Thanks for the reply. I now intend to give it a 3 coarse treatment of CT. hopfully I have caught it in time before the temps start dropping too much. 18 deg C at the moment. This worked OK last year and she carried on healing throughout the winter at 15 deg C. Thinking back to last year. This ulcer was one of the sights where I injected her and did not spot it at the beginning of this year when I lifted year to scrape. best Regards Dave

Decided to try a 3 coarse treatment of kanamycin and have not gone with the CT treatment so far. Here is how she is getting along. Sorry if the photo is a little out of focusImage. You can clearly see that the wound is healing so will see how it goes.Real positive results with the kanamycin.Let me know what you guys think. Best Regards Dave

its not a great picture but we can clearly see the improvment, but i would still add some C/T to keep the bacterial count down in the water we dont want it going backwards now!

in the mean time im gonna chalk another win up to Kanamycin

as far as i know im the only one that has used and pioneered this apart from twqo guys that i have supplied it to so they can experiemnt with it, one i cant name, even though he is not a member here, but has had great sucess with it so much so he wont use anything else now

great stuff

Cheers Duncan I will try another coarse of CT. Unfortunately I have no quarentine so will subject the other koi to the treatment as well. It is almost a month since I treated for Gill flukes. There has been no sign of them returning, however another round of CT should finish off any eggs which may of hatched out. Thanks again for your input which is always appreciated. Best regards Dave.
