Re: split pec fin
hi Ron
you can either superglue it or suture it or use a combination of the two, keep the suture close to the root of the split

Hi Duncan
Hope Ron will excuse me for coming in on this one, but i was with him last night when the kohaku made a run for it. What we were discussing last night was, do the tissues have to be touching to regenerate ? how would this be achieved with super glue if a film of glue is between the two edges of the fin ? I can understand the suturing, and being at the root of the split, using the two techniques. But it is the matter of the tissues touching that i am wondering about? Do they or is it not a issue?

hi
i hear what you are saying but its not an issue they have used superglue on wound closure in human medicine for quite some time now, its preferable if they are touching but the two edges just have to be close, granulation will then fill a small void. IMHO if you suture without glueing there is a chance the sutures will tear the delicate tissue

Re: split pec fin
hi duncan,
suturing of split fin seems to have been successful.using the super glue as well .so the next question is how long do the sutures stay in place before being removed .

Re: split pec fin
I Glued and stitched a fin on one of my Showa last year, great results cant remember how long the sutures were in but you will know once the fin has healed.
Re: split pec fin
I have to do this in the anal fin of my asagi tomorrow after she jumped out. Will be trying the superglue and stitches approach and will take some pictures before and after. If these look good will post on here.

Re: split pec fin
Way too busy at the weekend but finally got round to bowling the Asagi today to inspect the damage.
Fortunately the anal fin has started to heal and is already showing good granulation between the two rays. Decided to leave well alone and let the koi sort itself out.
