Hi Duncan;

Just played with the new version, excellent.

Have changed the week numbers to real dates, no problem, just have to remember to also change the font size from 10 to 8 and use short date format.

The nitrogen chart still has me scratching my head.... have added row to record feeding on a scale of 0 -5 (0=nothing, 5 is normal large feed this will mean different things to different people!) and also added water change record as % but I am still stuck with the need to record NH3 NO2 and NO3 on same scale.

My proposal would be to record temp under the horizontal axis as a number (not graph it I think it is style 5 in my version of excel that does this automatically) and then to put nitrate on the right like temp in the first graph and ammnonia and nitrite on appropriate scales on the left........ just a thought.

I did this because I would like to track the rises and falls in NH3 etc in the smaller growing on tank.

the problem is the nitrogen cycle all measure in the same scale "PPM" but even then it would alway be a compromise because i fully expected NH3 and NO2 to be flat lined at the bottom on zero or near zero where as nitrate would be up there in the 20-40's

so there is a case for cutting the PPM scale down to cover what you expect to see

what you need and i dont think it exists is from zero to 1ppm a zoom function in this division to cover expected ammonia and nitrite readings and then normal for nitrate up to 60ppm

i'll have alook at acomodating what you need but it will involve another secondary axis

but i think this will be fine for the majority

I wouldn't worry me either Gaz - just not had the time to sit down and get this up and running right. Frustrating that is for sure.

Hi Guys and Girls;

Duncan don't bust a gut over the nitrogen scale; I simply made a second graph for ammonia an d nitrite alone with auto scaling on the vertical axis so I can watch the version I am using for the small tank very carefully.

I do however think there is a way in Excel that you can have a discontinuous scale to handle data sets like these.

Hi Dunc,

This is a great tool, thanks. I had been doing something similar with just my temps and have seen some interesting trends over the last few years. I have one small point, for those of us running RO with our very low levels of KH/GH the graph is alittle squashed as they are both almost flatlining and the tds and ph are filling the page quite nicely. Would it work better with another graph for those two with a smaller scale of 0-10 for the hardness?

ok i hear what you are saying but this is a general package for every one

if you GH and KH is that low then it follows your TDS is going to be low as well and ain't gonna hit anywhere near 300 ppm in this case do the following

get your chart up, put the curser on the numbers on the left and right click then select "format axis". select the scale tab and set the maximum field thats currently 300 to 150 or what ever you expect this figure to peak out at for TDS then click ok and save if you expect to see you highest figure lower than 150 then set it at that if by chance it does go over it you can put your curser on it and it will give you the reading even though its maxed out.

you can mess with all the figures in scale and see what you get if you dont like it just close down without saving ?
