This comes & goes,,,But what is it??

Post by MikeWh »

Hi...It has been sugested in the past that this is just a little over production of mucus. It only seems to appear on my three dark carp, all three seem to be affected at the same time everytime, & then it goes away again with no treatment....Absolutly does not seem to bother them, but I would just love to know what it is??...Mike

Hi Lee...When it goes, it can go overnight....& stays clear for ages....Then it starts like a few bits on the gill plates & on the head....A few patches on the body....Then gone......Mike

Hi & thanks for the replys...Been off line for a couple of days so sorry for not getting back sooner.....I must admit looking at one or two of those pictures it does seem to be a strong possibility.....I was expecting pink waxy stuff, but looking at some of those shots it looks like it takes on more than one form........Mike

mike an easy way to test is to pull the fish, and if it feels soft but soft like a lump of silicone its pox mate

Hi & thanks for the replys....I think & I do mean think! I've got to the bottom of this...I am almost positive this is caused when my carbon cartriges are spent. I put in a full pond dose of de-chlor last night, & by the end of the night the marks were noticably fading, & this morning they have completly gone from one of the three fish & almost gone from the other two.....I hope I'm right, because it would explain a lot....Thanks again.........Mike

Mike, that's interesting .... are you saying it a chlorine burn? or an allergic reaction?

Hi....I've not been out to have a look yet, but if it's gone again, then the only thing I have changed is to use dechlorinator in the pond....I do rely probably to much on the carbon filter cartridge & just by coinsidence Duncan has mentioned on another post that he uses it aswell as de-chlor filters.....I'll go & have a look at the fish & see how things are...........Mike

Just a couple of faded marks left on the larger common carp, the other two are clear...........Mike
