Re: RO buffering-Bicarb or source water

Hi Kevin, I am with Andy on this one, seems bonkers to me to strip out the nasties (do you trust the water board? :? ) from your source water just to mix 'traces' of who knows what? If the best koi development is achieved in mudponds fed by melting snow of the jap mountains, then a jot of anything '...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Hi Guys, Sad to have to draw a line under this thread with tonights post that despite all the advice and effort over the last month she finally gave in today. To be fair, she didnt seem as active when I checked on her last night, so its not a huge surprise, but disappointing to say the least. Despit...

Re: Bug Eyed.....?

Hi Gazza, I would say its possible, or maybe the head pattern has changed around the eyes, but with a second koi (a runt black goshiki that shouldnt really be in the pond  ) looking notably larger eyed, thought it worth posting. I would like to know whats likely to cause such a problem, in cas...

Bug Eyed.....?

Not noticed this koi being particularly bug eyed before..... and today spotted a second koi with similarly enlarged eyes, but no other symptoms. The first is a kohaku, male with an otherwise slim figure, and no signs of pinecone I would expect if it was dropsy. Any knowledge out there on reasons for...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Thanks Tom/Gazza, I will follow that plan, as with weather as it is the Vat is holding good temps, so will dose with CT today and see what another week in their does. I shall clean up what I can, and post pics later just in case I am missing owt. PH is still sat a 8 in the VAT as is the main pond de...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Thanks for the comments guys, and after seeing no improvement in pond, took her out again and banged her into the Hospital tank along with a PH acraflavin dose! Along with the 0.6% salt I am giving her the isolation treatment to give her any chance to heal, as it looked like it was only going to go ...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Dave you are spot on about how I feel at the minute.... On that note, and noting Duncs comment I shall have her out tomorrow and paint over with malachite. Confession time though, I dosed the pond with Acriflavine (as against using the tank) tonight on the understanding this might help reduce fungal...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Hi Limey,

And the battle continues, with her off the food and not settled at all tonight. Signs of fungal infection again so I will have her out tomorrow night and into the hospital vat again, with PH and Acraflavin dose to try and hold back the opportunist infections.

Not over yet....

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Thanks Bob, I am certainly hoping she pulls around now, as I am leaving well alone for a bit.

She is a bit mopey, but still swimming about, just want to see her keen for food again, but its only been a couple of days.

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Well here are tonights update pics - yesterday added CT to hospital tank and now she is back in the main pond having just dosed with pp to reduce the bacterial load in the pond, as suggested by Dunc after the partial amputation. The pp should also help oxidise the wound as well, hopefully helping th...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Tom,

I am certain it was the constant friction between loose cartilage and the base of the body that stopped and healing.

Fingers crossed (fingers are tired now!)

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Overnight in the 0.6% salt solution has brought on a response, with the original wound site opening up again, and as the second pic shows, finally gone through to the other side of the tail. Decision finally made to cut my losses, and just hope I am still not too late sacrificing the lower part of t...

Re: Tail Tube Damage

Tom,

Thanks, that's the consensus of opinion then, as Mr Norse mentioned earlier that they looked dodgy, just wanted to check Dunc hadnt seen anything we had missed.

Cheers,
