Shower Upgrade

Post by Gazza »

Hi Guys,

Its begun i am now the proud owner of a set of showers which over the next few days i will be messing around with so i can work out what fittings and pipe will be required to fit the showers and get them in action

Does it matter how much is sticking over the edge of the wall??

A big thanks to Darren for all his help in sorting this all out

Logically speaking(as I don't have showers  ) I would have though it's better to have as much of the weir overhanging the pond to create extra aeration when water meets pond surface.... you wouldn't want it just running down the inside edge of pond wall.......just a thought.

Did you buy them brand new Gazza ?....I'd love some showers but just can't afford them, actually I can, it's just the Mrs wont let me spend it!! :roll

Hi Carl,

The thing with having to much sticking over the edge is i always try to keep any obstruction away from the pond just in case. You imagine a fish jumping and slicing itself on the edge of the shower   could be the cost of a set of showers

Yes i did buy them new from Darren at A4koi as he has them in stock so i could pop over and pick them up :D I have a few friends who may just prefabricate the truth when it come to koi stuff nd you never know you may win some in a raffle or even get them on a 50% off weekend deal :D

Its grown already :D

Well its all in place so now i can have a good mesure up and work out what pipe and fittings are required to finish the job.I have a few little bits to sort like the mid way return which in now going to pull from the pond and over the shower. This will also be a the tricky bit placing the pump so at least i have plenty to get on with :D

I know they say the fish love showers well mine are buzzing around them already and its not even working

I looked at your water level and that's why I went with my suggestion.....I think you'd have to be unlucky for a koi to jump at exactly that point, it looks like you have a decent height from pond..........anyway, you could always glue/fit some airline over the sharp edge, just slice with stanley knife down the length of pipe and then slide it position

Hi Gazza
Could you just raise the showers by putting decking under them..then you can have them hanging over the pond more without the risk of koi getting hurt,I know very little about showers so it might not work..just thought I would ask.

They do look smart though :)

love the showers, i think you should have them further over the pond so the base plate is sitting totally on the brickwork.
question:- are you going to screen the showers from the neighbours behind the fence. they will be directly in line for all the noise from the spraybar. at the moment your pond has all the noise in the shed whereas now its going to be 6ft high and right on their boundry.

Hi Gazza

Congratulations on your purchase. I presume you will be stuffing it full of BHM? If so what pump are planning to use? Also are planning to encase it in polycarb for sound and heat insulation?

Cheers

gazza shove it on proply don't worry about the fish knocking themselves i chuck the food under the shower they seem to feed better just under the water, don't bother with the pipe on the wier tryed that it makes the water track under the shower.you'll love it when it's working so will the fish.

Hi Guys,

The shower will hang over a bit and shouldn't be to much of a problem and i will leave the bottom chute as is and to be honest i am looking forward to seeing the water going into the pond :D

The showers will be enclosed which is a shame as i have always liked the look of showers but i don't want too much noise and also have to think of running costs in the winter

they will be stuffed with BHM and i will be running one 16000 and at the moment another 8000 but this could end up with two 16000 over the shower which is what i hope for which will be a far old flow :D

I have always said i will enclose the pond so you never know i may get round to it this year so this will also help with noise and heat loss.........still i have been saying that for a while now  :D

Hi Guys,

I managed to get a few hours on the pond today and the showers are up and running now and i am very pleased with the flow and the fish love them :D

I have put the polycarb on the back and just need to box them in now but not 100% sure on how yet but i have a few ideas :D

Here are some pictures of the progress as it went along from draining down to getting them going :D

Mods to pipe work that used to go to the TT

Tommy drain is stuck on and valve fitted to the pipe work so i can start to fill the pond back up.I could then carry on with the pipe work for then shower up to the spray bars and filling the shower with BHM.I am running eight boxes of BHM which is three of old style from the TT and five new boxes.

There are two pumps now running on the shower one is inside in the shed and is an Aquamax 16000 and the other is outside under the boxing and is also a Aquamax 16000 as i wanted as much flow as possible due to the amount of media in the shower.

The fish seem to like it :D :D :D :D :D :D

Finished and cover back on for now :D

The old TT was removed and this is the inside which has never been touched since it was installed and as you could see the BHM looked OK in the fist tray and the inside isn't to bad either :D
