I try to see it as a whole John. Sure the Static K1 does Bio filtration. But I see that as a bonus. I would always strive to have sufficient normal bio filtration without relying on the static K1. I don't think cleaning the static K1 will have any affect on it's capacity as a bio filtration media in any case.

Thanks guys
Three very confident informative answers,
So it’s good to know I don’t have to remove any
There are quite a few post’s out know reporting how efficient static k1 is at removing fines, but I think you have to see it first hand to appreciate this.
Don’t through your filter brushes away I am sure they will be very collectable one day lol.
Koi keeping two years I new every thing,
Three years later I had learned more but new less,
Two years later I have more understanding at how little I know.
Really enjoying being here and hope to grow in knowledge, as koi quest grows in strength as it surly will. Starting to feel apart of some thing. May have something to do with you rough necks lol.
All the best
John

Yup that’s the one bob I took a shine to
There all coming on really well, and looking good gazza, which only depresses me even more. It would take me four years to get that growth. Oh well.
Any news on the tds.
What’s………??????........ The water has got more life to it?

Tested the TDS = 520
OK so something isn't quite right in the pond. Water is gin clear, no muck anywhere in the pond or Vortex.
Two thoughts:
1 - There's loads of muck in the shower - which I dont think there is.
2 - The bottom tier of the shower has a media in it called Glafoam. This was a media made from Glass and shells, looks like it was made into some sort of liquid and poured out into a tray. Then smashed into bits and each bit has thousands of small holes in it. Looks great, but it was never manufactured for sale - I wonder why?
Perhaps this media is breaking down somehow?
Will check further this weekend ...........................................
