Help wanted finding a Fibreglasser

I should have my pond ready for glassing in about 3 or 4 weeks time ( i'll get some pics on when i get chance)
just wondered if anyone knows someone who does it around the midlands (Wolverhampton area) ?

I did ring a company called PJ Glassfibre, but they wanted £28 a square metre, seemed steep to me.

Ask what material they are putting on for you.

You can have varieying amounts of matting. Some do 2 x 450 gram matt, some do 2 x 450 then tissue, some do 600 then tissue. This obviously affects the price per metre.

My pond was fibreglassed 14-years ago and is still going strong with no problems. It was completed with a single 600 gram matt, which is overlapped at joints, and then an overlapped tissue over the top of it. Perfect finish and very strong.

I have done a few ponds myself in exactly this way.

But the choice is everyones, some may say my way isnt strong enough - 14-years ........

It's a bit like the question of 'blocks' on building a pond. Lots of ways of building a pond, many are overkill and a waste of money. But everyone has a choice.

mine was done with 2 x450 grm then tissue i compared quotes on like for like not sq/m seen some done with less than mine and it looks bad you pays your money and takes your choice

I've been quoted around £22 a square metre for 1 x 600 grm layer plus flowcoat, is this strong enough do you think ?
Would you shop around for 2 x 450 grm + tissue layer for example...

In reply to Tancho it all depends who does it mate as for quality of finish with one layer so please dont put all glassers in the same frame

I think flowcoat applied to a single 600 mat, would give a poor finish. It would be better to have a 2-layer coverage, say 600 then tissue. Flowcoat is applied to all laminates as a finish layer.

Whilst price is important you do pay for what you get when you use one of the top guys in terms of quality.

We went for 2 layers of 450 plus tissue, over polyurethene foam, Matt from GRPlining did the job and I would use him again without question.

Mick whitelaw did my old pond for me back in 2002. He used a single layer of 600 and then green flowcoat. It has lasted to this day without a single leak, except when I dropped one of the bricks into it and it landed onits corner! Soon fixed with some silicone. I think Mick charges £20 per sq M. As long as it is rubbed down before the flowcoat is put on there is no real need for a tissue coat on a koi pond. Again another case of overenginnering and wasting of cash.
