Simply Koi and More Koi

After a couple of messages from a certain member on here COUGH COGH GAZZA i am considering starting my pond now rather than next year.

Any advice before i start would be great.

Also does anyone have a large padling pool or vat i could borrow to store my koi in?

Ok on advice from Mr peer Preasure here is the equipment i currently have and what i think i need.

1 nexus 200 easy to run off bottem drain then to go into 6 foot multibay with loads (adventually 300ltres) of fluid k1 in.

1 static k1 vortex to run off the skimmer line

i have 4 30watt UV's

i have 2 40ltr and 1 50ltr airpump

i have loads of 4 inch pipe and 2 inch pipe.


I think i need 1 airated bottem drain
1 widemouth skimmer
loads of bricks.

I am using the existing site which is 3.5foot at the deepest at present and 2 foot at the shallowest. This will all be dug down to four foot.

The pond will then be raised 3 foot.

overall dimesnions are going to be 16 foot x 9 x 6 so in an oval shape.

so hoping for 4500 gallons.

Matty for your info I have a length of 3 meter of 4" pipe unused..

Cheers mate i may take it only concern is getting it here. you cant get much in a 3 series.

Could you not just run the Nexus on its own from the bottom drain and then the other on the skimmer

I could do but i think running 300ltrs of k1 on a skimmer is a little ott.

So was thinking with the nexus then going into a further fluid k1 chamber id have about 400 ltrs of fluid k1 in the end.

Cant be a bad thing running that much fluid K1 even after the Nexus. Im contemplating having a fluid K1 Vortex after my Nexus 200 which will also hold my airlift pipes.

Then just have a static K1 vortex/or other filter design on the skimmer?

Guy thats exactly what i am thinking.

I have the static k1 vortex already done. just need to finnish converting my multibay.

Was also considering adding a hydroclean after the vortex before it returns to pond.

I will have a spare vat in two weeks that you are welcome to borrow. Think it is 1500 or 2000 gallons. Should fit nicely into the garage! You should be able to pump the pond water into the vat and move mature media accross Let me know if you want a hand digging

One thing you ahvn't mentioned is a window, you must have a window or you will regret it at a later date

The wife doesnt like windows and id struggle to justify how much they cost. + because im going to do this myself with the help of friends dont wan to ad anything to complicated.

I will see if we have a mini digger floating around at work i can pinch/borrow! You have to have a window-they dont cost as much as you think and they are suppossed to be easy to fit-tell the wife it is for health reasons-you can see if theres a problem a lot sooner with a window!

The windows don't have to be expensive and you can build the frame from the block work thats what most have done and then just stick it in
