Getting there now!!

Post by Andy E »

Hi all,

Well took the day off today to crack on with the pond, pitty the weather had other ideas.
Anyway it cleared a bit in the afternoon and I managed to start the filter mods. My filters use to be in a straight line, but in the new pond they need to be in an L shape so the drilling commenced. After some advice (cheers Gazza) I'm also putting 2 x 4" pipes through each filter.
My bricky also turned up today to do the top course of bricks. He was beaten by the light but will be back early tomorrow to crack on.

Here's a few pictures of what we've been up to.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi there,

Yep will be trying and AEasy in the first chamber on Sunday. got most of the bits. Just need some solid sheeting fo the base and to drill the grid I bought out a lot more for the upright section.

I'm picking up the last couple of bits of pipe work for koikit tomorrow as I'm down that way. I will be draining the pond and re-filling on sunday (hopefully) and with the pipe work from Mark I'll be able to get the heater up and running  What temps are you guys running??

Gazza, what do you use in your filters as air stones? Do you ues air tube with holes in?

Hi Andy,

I use the speed-fit pipe and just put a tee piece in the middle so you end up with a circular bit and then a straight pipe out the top that i connect onto large pipe similar to petrol pipe.

At the moment i have come down a bit to 14c.

A picture speaks a thousand words:

As you can see in this one i have connected the speed-fit pipe and then run directly to the vortex with speed-fit and even put on some valves so i can turn it on or off for cleaning and if i want static K1 in the last chamber.

Hi Andy,

Looks like its coming along nicely! Can i ask how you have conected your extra pipe work to the filter-is it fibreglassed or is that some kind of sealant? Keep the photos coming! Wont be long till you can put the koi back in!

Hi all,
The bricky was around for most of the day yesterday cracking on with the final course of the pond which ment I had to sit back and watch! Yeah right... The misses (and I) decided that if the top course of the bricks on the pond were Plumb Engineerings then the wall that runs all the way up the side of the house should be the same, Cue lump hammer and bolster. My arms feel like lead this morning .
Anyway He finished the top of the pond and made a start on the garden wall. Below are some pictures of the progress.

One question that I've had is regarding the front right of the pond and what is going on there. You can see in one of the pictures a concrete block where the garden wall meets the pond and a grey pipe coming up for the ground. The level of the ground in this corner is going to be raised to level with the top of the wall, so you won't see the concrete block at all. The grey pipe that you can see will be the overflow for a water butt that will go in that corner. and be fed from the gutter above.

Hope all that makes sense, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

All the best,

Andy

Hi all ,

Well it was a big weekend this weekend. Managed to get the filters up and running with a lot of mods, but there is still lots to do over the next few weeks.
Got the easy mod in and air in the K1 chambers. So with heat already up and running on the skimmer line I'm ready for fish!!

Here's a couple of pics of the filters (yes I know the filter bays a mess  )

Following the near completion of the filters I went on a trip this morning....
Down to Bob's who's very kindly been looking after some of my fish whilst i've been building the new pond, the others are in gazza safe hands.
After just over an hour and a half all 11 were measured double bagged and pack in boxes in the car. Just over 2 hours later and their in!! :D :D :D Suddenly the all the hassle and hard work seems to be worth it. The first time I saw the fish swim past the window was fantastic!! Here's a few pics of them in their new home.. I off to have a beer or 3.
Once again thanks Bob for your help,

Andy

Nice one Andy, glad things went well and you had a good trip home.

The window sure does look good with a Koi or two swimming past it.

Hi there Gazza,

The static K1 seems to be doing it's job the pond is still fairly clear. I'm going to need loads more K1 to fill the other chambers though! And I still can't figure out why i'm getting so much head loss across the chambers...
Will have a play around during the week and see what I can come up with.
