New Shower chute for Gazza

I'm now making up a set of mini showers for Gazza, but I didnt like the bottom chute I'd made for mine. So I made up a new mould and today I turned out the first Mk2 from it.

I designed it with a 20 degree slope

It's got a full height back to it to keep splashes 'in'

Side view, needs cleaning up a bit yet though. I will make it so that there is a glassed 3-4" wide bottom to it, so it will sit flat on the side of the pond and can be secured there.

A bottom tier put in place to show how it will fit. This will be glassed into place. The other two tiers will sit on top in the way I did mine, using 8mm stainless bar supports.

Well that is looking great Bob and i thought it looked good yesterday :D

Do you know what the full hight will be and how much BHM it will take :?:

Do you think they could be modified (modified  sorry its not even built yet  ) so it could take a sheet of matting on the top before the first shower as perhaps a mechanical; part :?: :?:

The back sheet is 25/26" high, as that it the height of the 3 tiers. So with the slope of the chute I'd say it is 30" in total.

BHM, approx 8kg per tier, roughly 25 in total

No problem putting a sheet of jap matting over the top of the BHM in the first tier.

The spray bar is of your own choice, I put 8mm holes in my piece of 1.5" pipe. If you wanted to pump larger solids than that, just put larger holes and then let the matting trap it.

I was just wondering about sitting it on the top of the tank and supporting it as it will sit central with a bit of luck and not on the end like the BST :D

Looks like i will be doing some pipe work modifications soon :D

Gazza,

Isn't your tank built to be 3" wide? If so this can go in the same place as your BST and you will be able to screw it down into the 3" tank surround. It will have a piece of wood glassed into place to allow this.

I know your pipework comes up the back, so the spray bar can have a 'T' in the middle of it and the top chute can have a 'U' slot/hole cut in the back/splash board.

OK now you've lost me with the T and u thingy :?

Hi Bob,

That looks great-im sure you could make a living from makin these! If they hold 8kg of BHM how much water would a shower of that size filter? Keep the photos coming!

Andy :D :D :D :D

I cant be sure on exactly how much each tier holds, but I'd expect you could easily pump 1000 gaslons/hour over the them. I'm doing about 500 gallons/hour, I really need to re-measure how much.

I'm sure Gazza will do more than me as he uses an Aquamax 8000 direct from the bottom drain.

Gazza - pipe up the back of the unit, bend going through hole in the back of the splash guard, though a 'U' shaped slot in the top tier, to a 'T', which joins into the middle of the flow bar, a stop on each end. Got it?????

I think Ive got it Bob i thought you was meaning a U shaped spray bar at first for more flow

Andy,

At the moment both Bob and myself are filtering around 450-500gls using less BHM than they will have in the shower so one of these shower could easily handle 500gls.

I have 9 koi in my tank ranging from 32cm up to 47cm :D

How much BHM are you currently using Gazza?

How much BHm err well a Grey bin full  i am not 100% sure now as i moved it from the TT then added some more but at a guess i would say about over a box perhaps a box and a half :?

That's the problem I have with 'how much does each tier hold', I'm not quite sure!!!!!!

I have some in the shed which is dried out, I'll have to see how much goes in each tier and then weigh it.

Sounds like a good idea Bob.....i may have to purchase some of you if i haven't got enough as i think the showers will hold more than my BST

still more media means more filtration means more fish or more food :D :D :D :D :D

Once the shower is fitted i will be putting the BST up for sale as its done so well since its bin installed
