But they looked happy enough in their work. :D

No wonder - look at the quality they had to select from!

Thanks for your help on Friday Bob (Kayoss).

We are really pleased with these Goshiki. The interesting thing is that we have done two Goshiki spawnings - same male but two different females. This second spawning has produced much better offspring than the first spawning, even though the mothers are both Momotaro.

These fry all look like Kohaku but as that is what you want to see in a Goshiki of this age and size - that's great! 8) The skin quality on these Goshiki is excellent.

Now we're gearing up for carrying out first selection on the second lot of spawnings that we did.

No rest for the wicked!

Lisa

Actually, it's a female Momotaro Kohaku crossed with a male Goshiki (Tanaka).

During the development of the Goshiki it has been crossed back with Kohaku to further develop the Kohaku pattern so this is an acceptable cross. We are very pleased with the results.

Just came across this link

http://www.momotaro-koi.org/english/oyakoi/index.htm

It shows that Momotaro use a female Goshiki crossed with male Kohaku.

Great minds think alike!!

It's just taken us three days to go through all the shusui but we've finally done it!

This was probably one of our biggest harvests ever and we are very pleased with the standard. Once again, skin quality is very good. These fry are only 3 and a half weeks old but they have grown well. Tomorrow we are going to count exactly how many were in the harvest - by the end of yesterday we had worked our way through 37,000. We have kept less than 10% to grow on and have been more selective about what we keep than ever before.

Tomorrow morning we are harvesting Sanke - hopefully we will get through these in a couple of days.

below is a picture of the Shusui fry just after we had started selection.
