water changes and treatments

Post by Duncan »

i was asked about water changes and treatments this was my answer:
a treatment relies on being present at a certain concentration usually fora specific period of time (obvious exceptions such as PP)
Any chemical treatment protocol has been over the years formulated and refined to be present in the water at a certain concentration taking into account it degrading at a specific rate. By doing large volume water change outs 5%> your speeding the degradation and thus dissipation of the product so it will be a lot less effective what ever the treatment is
try and hold off on water changes until the appropriate moment as specified... your as well to turn UV off this is the general rule of thumb, because some chemicals suffer from Photodegradation thus degrading faster and some chemical speed up their release and toxicity with UV exposure
