Colombo Alporex

Post by bigmel »

Hi all

Has anyone used this or have any thoughts on it .

http://www.absolute-koi.com/prod2126.html

Just looking at it as a costia treatment (not needed now) but just wondering if it works as i keep a few Sturgeon in with the koi so certain treatments i cannot use .

The main ingredients seem to Acraflavine and malachite so i cannot see how it would kill costia and parasites ?

If i,ve posted in the wrong section please move it .

Thanks

Mel,

There's a post about costia on the dark side where Chris at QueniKoi uses it.

Not tried it persoanlly, prefer FMG or salt.

I don't see anything in it to combat costia, chillo or white spot

I wont be changing my strategy any time soon but thanks for the heads up

Hi all

I hung fire on replying as i wanted to make sure .....its been 6 weeks or more since i treated with Alperax (sp) and its worked 100 % ?

The costia i thought i had got rid of with a number of pp treatments (sturgeon removed and salt bathed ) kept coming back after a few weeks i never got a full kill dispite higher doses of pp used .

No flashing , nothing on scrapes and all koi and sturgeon are active and healthy .

Bigmel Thats really good news . Having a look at the price of this. It is not exactly cheap. Looking at whats in it . Perhaps it would be cheaper to mix it up your self. Thanks again for posting your finding.

Hi Dave

Yea its not cheap !

I found the formula (ratio) to mix your own on an American forum when i find it again i will link up to it . No idea why its worked i convinced myself it was a waste of money but was the only chemical i could use with the sterlet /sturgeon still in the pond .

That's interesting news Duncan.

I have used Alparex two or three times with success and spoken with some dealers who like using it but dislike it taking a while to leave their systems as it stays green for so long and customers always then suspect trouble.

Have always been lead to believe there was a third element in it.

Couple of questions - Is yours a mirror image of the make up? Is it also safe to use with salt in the pond?

Without wishing to teach you to suck eggs, it is important to ensure anyone using it heeds the warnings about water hardness and follows instructions carefully. Been many a story about people double dosing in error with the Colombo product!

It is a product that has its critiques but as I say, I have found it useful. I would however say, in my (limited) experience, it should be added to the pond slowly (especially when the day 2 dose goes in) and do not be surprised if you get a mixed reaction from the fish. I have found some sulk on day one and are fine on day two, some are the other way round, some are fine and then sulk on day 3 and others don't bat an eye and still look for you to feed them every time you look in the pond.

Would also appreciate your view on the time window between using this and other products - Colombo instructions say two weeks between this and their fluke treatment (lernex) which I think has flubenol in it but not sure what else, Any thoughts on this please?

Many thanks

Steve

I,ve just treated the pond with alporex after on going issues with costia and hearing dealers recommending the Alporex.
I got the KH unto 7 and then put the 1st dose in with increased aireation .
The koi were flashing before i put the stuff in and after 3 hours of it going in i had a jumper lay on the patio.
He was totally motionless but after 30 mins in the return stream from the filter he came round thank god.
2nd dose went in tonight along with a catchment fence lol.
