Simply Koi and More Koi

Hi Guys,

Well a bit later than normal the cover went on today as it looks like the colder weather is coming after the mild start we have had and although i don't like covering the fish it helps keep the costs down. I also think the fish like it and hopefully (fingers crossed) they com out of the winter in good health/shape and condition after the winter with no food and the lower temperatures.

Lets hope we don't have to have the covers on for to long and that spring soon comes round and our fish are healthy and happy and ready for summer

Gazza My fingers are crossed. I have spent the last few days brushing a good covering of snow off the covers, to hopefully allow what little light there is through and the gasses to escape. The nights are now starting to look a bit shorter.Once it is warm enough to sit in the conservatory the the covers are off. I just hate looking at them. However if it were not for them , at a pond temp of 15 degs C I would be bankrupt by now.Hoping 2013 is a good year for us all. Best Regards Dave.

15c my fish should be so lucky we have had a bit of a nightmare and the boiler packed up in the week so hopefully they will be OK at the lower temp and i will be having all my old bits and bobs out over the weekend to plumb in the 3kw heater from the shut down grow on system in to give them a bot of heat for now.

All in the day of a koi keeper........keep dreading looking under the cover........................

Hi Gazza, I had a similar problem with my boiler packing in a couple of years ago and unfortunaetly temps went down to about 6 degc C. Fortunaely I have now got a heat pump, which I bought to run off my solar panels in the summer for nowt.It also works as a back up, incase the boiler packs in again. The heat pump does not work that good in the winter when ambient temps are very cold but should help whilst I ever need to get the boiler repaired. Best Regards Dave

I managed to get the heater plumbed in and lucky the fish looked OK so hopefully they will be OK as they dropped and i have them sitting at C now

Now i will have to see if my mate can come and have a look at the boiler and see if it can be repaired
