checked fish for the costia as one was getting heavey mucous on their back after the last treatment with mgf.
found fluke had a few of them when i scraped last time but now they have gone into overdrive around 30 plus on slide where ever i looked. also still have the costia though i really had to look for them. it seems to be just the big sanke that is really affected as the other scrapes only picked up the odd fluke.
i gave her a strong salt bath to relieve her of the infestation for the moment and have ordered fluke solve .
i feel this particular fish must have problems with its immunity as the rest in the pond dont show any symptoms but with the load on this fish i feel it will soon get out of control.
never had so many problems. this year is definately one of the worst.
should i treat again for the costia? before the fluke solve?
costia was only on this fish from what i could see on the scrapes, i wondered if they survived the last treatment because the mucous on her was so thick.
starting to pull my hair out. :( :(

Oh hun,

I really feel for you.

While you're trying to get rid of the killer (costia) you've given the flukes time to kick butt too.

In my mind I'm not sure which is worse. I have known a few people treat with FMG and had no luck against Costia.

For me, I had no choice but to PP mine, as I had salt in my tank. (sleeping sickness requires salt and heat to 30d) then they started dying off at 6 per day result was a million costia.

I had no choice but to hit them, and to hit them hard. The first dose I couldn't do, as they were struggling so much prob with the salt in the tank too. They all gasped at the surface and after 2.5 hours I had to neutralise it as I was losing them through the treatment. It did really knock the numbers back. I gave it 3 full clear days with constant water changes and hit them again. They took this dose a lot better. And I am (touch wood) so far 3 weeks clear.

If there is just one fish, that seems to have Costia. Maybe worth separating this one and PP bathing it. There are more people experienced with that to give you a dose, but I believe a high dose for 3 mins will kill anything on her. Hoping she also isn't too weak to take the hit.

Then you could treat for Flukes in the main pond and keep an eye on her somewhere else then treat for flukes later.

Ummmm so unsure what is best for you. But now, I really think you need proper advise from someone who does know their stuff. I'm only going on my own experiences, and we're all different.

If you ever want to chat, pm me I'm always online and on skype is same name as here. :) Kanundra
