Hey
Is using Virkon Aquatic a good way of reducing bacteria in a pond? I do know it will take the 'good' with the bad bacteria, but not sure what are your thoughts on using it...

Regards.

hi

there are better ways of controlling bacteria than virkon, virkon is like taking a sledge hammer to crack a wall nut, Chloramine T would be much better choice, much better still would be to let the eco system build and let the bacteria good and bad hold each other in check

I had quite a few problems earlier this year. Sorted them out (Duncan's book came in handy!!) I am now using Sansai Biorex. About once a month I am putting it in when the filters are cleaned (can't afford to do it every time). I mix a small amount in with their feed every day and all the fish are healthy. There was one with a bit of fin rot on it's dorsal and that has cleared up without any other treatment. I get it from Holmeswood Koi. There are two sizes one litre and five litres. Much cheaper overall to buy the big one!!
