Hi Tom,
It depends on the damage and if there is anything else going on to be honest,if its just where its had a flick or something and the ares looks clean and your water is OK then it will heal itself. But .................always a but

if it has some other damage or the scales have come out due to a bacterial reason then not only may the fish need treating but you may also have to look at treating the pond once you find the reason so a few scrapes could be needed as this type of thong is normally always a secondary infection which means finding what caused it in the fist place.
Have you had the fish out for a look and do all the others look OK

Hi Tom,
Sounds like you did a good job mate just keep an eye on it and fingers crossed it will be fine.
You could put some pipe insulation on the stones for a temporary fix for now.
