Hi All

Has anyone ever fed their Koi water melon and do you know if it has any benefits. I have tried oranges lettuce garlic honey sponge fingers, but had never heard of water melon before, until yesterday. I must admit I have already tried it in the pond as I am always looking for things for my babies to try. I was in St Helens yesterday buying a new Shusui and some weeny Koi and the man had water melon in his pond and his Koi were going mad for it, and he said he was told 10 years ago that he should feed as a suppliment, so me being me I was just wondering what benefits there are, if any.

Thanks

Never tried it but 100 grams of water melon will contain only 10mg vitamin C, where as up against an orange you will have 53mg of vitamin C. Really we should use a Kakadu Plum which 100 grams contains between 2300 to 3150mg of vitamin C  lol

Hi Graham

Well its not vitamin C then :?

I wonder if the colour of it could do anything. I must admit I was shocked when he said he had been told by someone that it should be the suppliment to feed as I have never heard of it, and between most of us we have tried loads of things :?:

Hi Gazza

Everyone I know say my Koi get better fed than family

Just to let you all know I have been putting it the pond and the Koi are going mad for it, They will even take chuncks of it out of my hand. So I take it there are no benefits but if they like it its ok to feed.

I feed mine water melon when the weather is warm i found a link for the benifits to humans and the nutrition values not sure how this adds up for Koi however they must absorb some of the vitamins
I also feed mine Lemons as well they seem to go mad for these.

Apologies if i am not supposed to post links.

Hi Gazza

When you feed them cockles do you wash them first or is it safe to give them straight out of the jar.

Mine are sulking since the move, they normally come straight over to me as soon as i go anywhere near the pond, but since the move they wont have anything to do with me, I tried to give them some prawns the other day and the only one who would take was one who eats everything, my chagoi came up to me looked at me and turned tail and swam away :( :( :(

I was sure as soon as i went near with the prawns they would be back to normal but nope, mind u if i had gone from a mansion to a 1 bedroom flat, which is what it must feel like for them I dont think i would be to happy. I will try some lemons and cockles and see if I can cheer them up. I know it doesnt feel right with them not talking to me, I hate it
