Simply Koi and More Koi

Not noticed this koi being particularly bug eyed before..... and today spotted a second koi with similarly enlarged eyes, but no other symptoms.

The first is a kohaku, male with an otherwise slim figure, and no signs of pinecone I would expect if it was dropsy.

Any knowledge out there on reasons for this?

I would say its possible, or maybe the head pattern has changed around the eyes, but with a second koi (a runt black goshiki that shouldnt really be in the pond ) looking notably larger eyed, thought it worth posting.

I would like to know whats likely to cause such a problem, in case I need to have something to hand to treat them.

Not that this hobby teaches paranoia or something

But anyway, as you've had chemical in the pond then this is sometimes a reaction.

I'm with Tom and Gazza on this one..... cannot see anything to bad to be honest and with the assault going on in the pond this year then koi will no doubt be showing signs of stress / be looking a little off. I tend to find after i've treated this knocks the filters a bit so water quality drops off and then i get things like this showing. I also have one koi that its eye clouds (in an opaque type look) over for about 3 days after adding pretty much any treatment and then it returns to normal.

This situation i feel is where many less experienced hobbyists could end up in that "treatment cycle" of adding chemical after chemical chasing problems that really only need time to settle down. Observation is the key - know your koi and their look and how they behave - only react to anything out of the ordinary.
