Simply Koi and More Koi

hi guys

after chris came friday i started work on my fish cleaning them up, some of them are ruined due to a rampant aeromonas outbreak i have one thats so poxed up its sickening to watch it swim ( by far the worse case of pox this man has seen)

it is my belief this is bought on by me allowing the temp to drop for the first year in the last ten years
i suspected gill fluke by the attitude the fish were displaying i quick scrape confirmed this. so to war ::

the pond had been raised to 14 c so far so out came the Chloramine T

the pond was treated yesterday with 15 gm C/T per 100 gallons they took it in there stride i went to bed and was anxious to get this morning and have a look

the guys look great the attitude in the water and viggor tells me the gill flukes are gone only a scrape will confirm this and onloy time will tell if the aeromonas is under control but they will get more of the same today another 15 gm per 100
i gotta get this aeromonas under lock and key

to tell the truth this regime called for drastic action and my water is still soft although my RO system has slowed down somewhat so i guess its about to check out but i have other plans in mind for that

but my pH is around 7.5 at the moment total TDS 100ppm so the reason i nvere reported i was going to do this was i thought this dose would back fire on me but it did not. i really though at this dose and my water softness these fish would come up tails first but they did not and as i was workiong in the garden all day yesterday i watched them like a hawk and had the S/T ready to go in but there was no realy need

so watch this space, just maybe another myth busted

Dunc, have you hit this koi with any a/b? ... if yes, what did you use?

Blimey you really did get hit this summer and i suspect just where they wasn't used to the winter and as you know once this takes hold you have to get on top of it in any way you can and drastic action was defiantly needed

I myself have used high dose treatments of CT before but only up top 10gm per 100 gallons and it worked a treat and stopped it in its tracks as otherwise aeromonas will just win hands down and run away with it.

That does look bad never seen carp pox that bad ether.I have used CT at 10 grams 100 gallons for a case of BGD and it worked very well,also for ulcers and bacterial infections in my QT.
