Simply Koi and More Koi

Hi All
I know this subject has been debated before,but as a newcomer,i would appriciate your viewpoint. IF A KOI IS BRED IN THIS COUNTRY,IS IT AN ENGLISH KOI,even if it's from Japanese stock?. A stigma is attached to English Koi!?,as to their quality. If you are born in this country to Scotish parents,are you English or Scotish?.
Your Thoughts please.

I would say all koi bred in the country can be called English bred, but you could also call them pure Japanese, Japanese bred if both parents where from Japan.

Maurice touched on this subject,but i can't remember in which post it was.So maybe when he looks in he can refresh my memory,it was along the lines of quality Koi bred in this country,i.e.English Koi?.

Does it really matter?

I don't know of any show that even asks what the nationality of a fish is, let alone would not accept one on the basis of the answer!

If the koi is good quality, then it's good quality!
If it looks good, then it looks good!
If you like it, what else matters?????

I'm all in favour of supporting English koi breeders. Price for price, I think you get better quality koi if they're English. They might not be able to match the very best that some Japanese breeders can produce, but they're catching up fast!!!

Bob, I agree.

I use the best Japanese brood stock I can get my hands on.

But my dream is to use my own bred brood stock, which are of higher quality than I can afford to buy in Japan.

My job is to sellect them!

Born in the UK or Japan, it's the fish on the table that matters.
