Making my pressurised filter more effective?

I have 2 empty Bioforce 9000's, and a 2000 gallon quarantine pond - I'm just wondering what filter media would be recommended for filling these things with to get the most out of them?
Was thinking possibly K1 or Crystal Bio?
The actual capacity is approx 50litres each, but in practice a reckon i will fit in 40l of media...?
Also - could i run these both on the same line to get better effectiveness - even if one is filled with jap matting and the other with media? Or would I be better splitting?
