which would you have

Post by welshguy84 »

Recently built a pond 7ft x 5ft x 5ft (1000 gal roughly)
to house several small koi etc until i move them on to a larger pond (father has one)

i know people will recommend the Evolution Aqua Nexus Eazy 210 but its too big as i have to hide it on my decking under a purpose build bench which im yet to build

which of these would be better (space is very tight hence not building a bigger pond and budgets around £700)
Kockney Koi KF5000 Filter Gravity (4-bay with vortex, media & lid)
Evolution Aqua Eazy Pod Air (includes 70lpm air pump)
Cloverleaf Professional Multi-Bay Filter CL1V
or a compact seive (sibo) with eithier a sand filter or a Kockney Koi 2500fg Filter

all fitted with;
Oase Swim-Skim Pond Skimmer
OASE Aquamax Pump 8000 (1750 gph)

Many thanks Kyle

i have thought about it but as you said id need mechanical filtration as well and the shower would blow my budget even a diy version with bhm, also id have to counter the heat loss showers create.

so want a filter to run all year round then during the warmer months ill make and use a small diy shower with bhm.
i also want it as easy to clean as i can because my partner will have to clean them while im away with work. (forces  )

The Eazypod should easily <no pun intended> cope with your requirements, very compact and easy to maintain.

Hi Kyle

basically you need two types of filtration, mechanical and biological.

The eazypod will provide ample mechanical filtration for a pond the size of yours, but the biological will be limited.

However, if you buy a round loft water storage tank or similar large container, add some K1 and speedfit pipe with holes drilled in it to provide aeration and hey presto - you have your biological filtration at a fraction of the cost of a "purpose built" filter!

Cheers

so you all say go for the easy pod. is it really that good at mechanical filtration ? or would a compact seive before be better ?
or a sieve feeding into the kk 5000 with the vortex filled with k1 and an air pump ?
