Expanding Foam

Hi All,

Have decided to modify filter setup very slightly. So need to fill a couple of holes and fibreglass back over. Was thinking of using expanding foam to fill holes and then glass over the top. Question is can you fibreglass onto expanding foam once its set?

Cheers Andy

Not totally sure Andy, may depend on foam type. So do a trial on something else before you do and try that first.

You can obviously glass onto kingspan, so you could easily foam fill, cut it flat, then cover with some aluminium sticky foil and glass over that!

Is it polyurethane foam? If so, yes you can fibreglass directly on to it, as Maurice did when he built his pond. Take a look at his build at http://www.koi-uk.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; scroll down and click on his articles page. The one you want is `new pond 1`, it is very interesting.

Hi Andy

If you want to be safe, just cut/sand the foam flush with the wall and then cover it with parcel tape before glassing the repair. I'm pretty sure that if that didn't work, the tops of the tanks at Cuttlebrook would have collapsed!

Cheers
