24 hours into this and the fish are fine

we are at 1.5 oz per gallon salt (0.9%)
and formaldehyde 38% 10 ml to 75 gallons approx 25 ppm

three koi one large two small one with ulcer not phased in the slightest post 24 hour

post 48 hours nothing doing as in alls well

well im gonna throw the kitchen sink in next

i need the vat back for next friday but i dont see it gaining any useful data after that

Real interesting.

Now using pristine water with a test subject that has been through the mill, so guess some gill impairment?.

Could it still come back to 02 depletion with the salt and 25ppm formaldehyde? OK with low organics, the formaldehyde will stick around much longer so any adverse reaction on the fish between the salt/form will have longer to take effect.

In a high organic situation could there be a more dramatic (shock) effect from introducing the Formaldehyde to the water that already has depleted O2 levels particularly with a test subject that may have impaired gills? Original tests with typical organic load were with a were at 0.6% salt and a healthy fish.

Sorry for the ramblings. Just trying to explore the possibilities. Guess quick solution would be to see where the dissolved oxygen levels drop to with this combo at different organic loads?

just pushed them closer to the edge

0.9% salt 30ppm formaldehyde and standard does of malachite just three clear days after a 25ppm formalin

so we will see tonight have not checked them this morning

fish are alive and well and for the most part not even phased, and i will give you the jist of whats gone on over the weekend later tonight , but basically i have crammed 2 weeks of testing into 3 days my heart was in my mouth that i had maybe over done it especially last night on the last dose , but it turned out so far to be a non event

the tank was 150 gallons filtered but no carbon just plastic media temperature 22c

ok heres what happened on the 17th may the fish 3 in total one large two smaller ones , were in 1.5 ounces per gallon salt (0.9%) which is a lot by any standard . but they had been aclimatised to this

on that night i added a double dose of 38% formaldehyde 10ml to 75 imp gallons , no reaction recorded

three days later another 10ml to every 75 gallons formaldehyde was adminstered along with malachite green at the standard dose rate 10 ml 2% to every 176 gallons . again no reaction
next night with no partial another 10ml to every 75 gallons formaldehyde was admin' d but no MG again no reaction
finally the next nigh another double dose of formaledehyde 10 to 75 gallons yet again no reaction

its been 2 days since the last dose went , and the fish will hopefully be moved back to my main stay q system tonight

but the fish look and are swimming fine

so im finding it difficult to expose a situation where salt and formaldehyde would kill a carp there may be one but i suppose the same can be said for any chemical or compound if you try hard enough or maybe one fish dose take exception to it but again like i say thats the same for almost anything including salt on its own

i learned so stuff while doing it also i leaned how to increase the concentration of formaldehyde beyond whats considered possible ( 40%) and an even faster way to make paraformaldehyde

im writting this up right now but for me this experiement is over i can learn no more from this and if i did kill a fish after what iv'e subj3cted these guys to its would not be the salt and formaldehyde it would be my stupidity in pushing it more than any living creature could stand

untill i finish the write up this will have to do but it hink you will agree i have pushed harder than anyone else would have thought possible and taken it to the limits and ALL FISH ARE STILL WITH US
