Re: Russ's New Pond
well, things have slowed down considerably, the weather , xmas, lack of funds have all taken their toll. the pond is 'built' but not finished. still need to get the fibreglass smoothed off, all those little spikes etc need to go. i need to fit the window & seal around the skimmer & returns. to do those jobs i need to be able to empty the rainwater out etc, but this has been a problem as we have a high water table so the water underneath the base was trying to lift the fibreglass. i now have a 5ft deep 'well' next to the pond with a pump on a float switch to pump the ground water out and that has worked very well.
today i have been laying a concrete base for the filter shed, just finished it 30 mins ago. hopefully i will be able to get the shed up tomorrow. after that i will be starting the 60ft trench that will run from the 'well' to the back corner of the kitchen where there is a drain. in this trench will be the drain from the well; water supply to pond/shed; power supply to pond/shed; & a heating loop to the heat exchanger from my domestic heating.
with that done i will then finish the pond. it will be ready for water by then and i am thinking of installing my bead filter on the skimmer with a few fish to get it started, see how that goes.
so there is lots to do & the whole garden looks like a bomb site. keeping everything covered from the wind & rain has been a challenge , but i am definately getting there ....... SLOWLY

Looking good Russ,
You want to take your time and get the pond perfect before adding your koi.
Keep up the hard work mate it will be so worth it in the end.
Your building skills look spot on.
Cheers Richard

cheers Rich,, kind words. I don't do bad for a DIY'er
Bob, the Nexus & BioMax 25 are going in the shed along with the UV & air pumps , heater etc. you can see the 4" ball valve sat in the B/D pipe where it comes up through the shed base , the Nexus will sit straight on top of that valve.
