Hi Bob, when choosing a width or depth of timber for a particular span the golden rule is half the span plus 2" or 50mm, i,e, 10ft span x a half = 5" plus 2" = 7" timbers, so you can see if i read it correctly you are going to need some hefty timbers to get over this pond and you may need a central beam to cut down on the span.Viewing from the house you may consider a level false fascia so that you do not see the fall which may be more pleasing to the eye. I like the pitch idea. Being a chippy and an old pond builder i have constructed dozens of pergolas, i like the pitched idea but if i can be of any assistance please do not hesitate in giving me a ring as i am not very good with posting pictures like you young ones.
