Hi Lee

Any thoughts on what timber to use for the frame as it will be encased within the polycarb so subject to a lot of damp and run-off back into the pond? I was thinking of using larch - it's naturally rot resistant and doesn't contain anything toxic to fish. Only problem is I don't know of a local supplier, plus it will be fairly costly.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Lee

I thought the polycarb would be outside of the frame and therefore the frame would be fully exposed to the humidity within the cover - I think I need to rethink my design so that the frame is external - pine would be a heck of a lot cheaper than larch or other hardwood.

I got a bit of a result today - got 25 sheets of double wall poly for £5.50 per sheet instead of £25 from a builders merchant that was closing down. Me and a mate bought 55 sheets between us. So that should take care of glazing the window and making the cover. For once in my life making something for the pond is going to cost me an arm and a leg!

Cheers

Jon

hi gazza

yes the roof is going to have a layer of kingspan then some batten then upvc cladding also the back wall will be kingspan and cladding above the pond trying to make a room so i do not have to heat all of the garage!!

Hi Lee

Seeing yours has helped me work out what to do for my cover - yours looks like a really good job.

Are you going to add any additional lighting?

Cheers

Jon

hi jon

no i am hopeing that the 6 feet 6" x 2 feet 6" window at the front of the garage will allow enought light in also the white upvc cladding should reflect the light back into the water if not i have a light just outside of the tank which i could put a daylight tube in i would not like to put a light in the tank because of the condensation.
