side drains ?

Post by gooner »

thoughts please on side drains. i currently have a pumped fed pond set-up and planning a upgrade soon. would like to go gravity fed with bottom drain but i have had the idea of a side drain put to me. i realise a side drain would be easier to fit but is it worth going the extra yard for a bottom drain .

Hi Ron,

The most important part of filtration is getting the waste out of the water and in my opinion a bottom drain is a must and although i know there are many ponds out there without them if you get the chance to install one go for it you wont look back :D

we have a side drain as the pond was built before joining a koi club, it works however looking back we would have just used a bottom drain. Bottom drains are by far the most efficent method.
