Overflow pipe connection in vortex
Hi
I want to put an overflow pipe into a CL3 vortex chamber so that I can continully top up with fresh water. All I can think of is to use a 1 1/2" tank connector and lots of mastic to ensure there are no leaks but given the relatively sharp radius of the vortex I don't know how secure this will be. Does anyone know a better approach?

What pressure will the input 'fresh water' be arriving at?
What dimension is pipework currently?
Will all pipework be readily accessible or will it be out of sight?
You could use overflow pipe from your local plumbers shops but that depends on the above.

I used a 2" flanged tank connector and and 40mm water pipe for overflow..... fitted it to primary vortex and it works fine

I'm running a temporary waste pipe of 1 1/2" bore, this will be increased to 2" when permanent pipe added.
Will all pipework be readily accessible or will it be out of sight?
It will be readily accessible - it is an indoor job so everything can be accessed or covered with removable decking.
The pipework itself is not too much of a concern, it's more how to connect waste pipework given the fairly tight radius of the vortex.

Hi Jon,
I would have suggested smaller pipework for the overflow but as you're already at inch and half and Carl is looking into the flanges.... fingers crossed, wait out and see what Carl comes up with
as I know that angled flanges such as these exist and just need a bit of tracking down.

The CL3 vortex is a measly 22" diameter. The only flanged radius tank connectors I've seen are 4". The only other thing I can think of is to heat distort the flange but I suspect I'm likely to end up with a small pile of molten plastic.

I'd use the white overflow pipe. You can get tank connectors with 90 degree bends so you can fine tune the level in the vortex and fitted properly they shouldn't even need mastic (though you could use some if you wanted to be careful). It's cheap and easy to run the 20mm pipe to your waste feed then IMHO.

2 gallons a minute,down the drain
i hope your not on a water meter
sounds an awfull lot for a trickle feed, you need to find ot what is the best flow rate would be
but even at 1 gallon an HOUR , that equals 24 gallons a day or 168 gallons a week. i would think you would need 5-10% volume change per week, plus your filter cleanng cycle

Hi Jon,
I fitted an overflow to my vortex and piped it back into the waste and also put a valve on it so i can isolate it if needed and also the pipe that comes up at an angle is not stuck in so i can replace it to make the water higher or lower.

Thanks very much for all the advice, info and pics. I think I have a handle on this now. I'm going to use a tank connector and 20mm pipe into my waste system. The reason I quoted 2 gals a minute was to build redundancy into the system for the absolute maximum amount of water I might need to push through the system.

i used pressure pipe 3/4 and just drilled a hole so i could push the pipe through and then pushed on the 90 bend and a 45 so they was fairly tight and just used gold label sealer and it works a treat
